designers, what is the maximum size a web page width can be to be viewable in 800x600
 

what is the maximum size a web page width can be to be viewable in 800x600 witout making the page have scrollbars at the bottom?

I do maximum width of 750 currently, but I am wondering what the absolute MAXIMUM width of a table in a webpage can be to be viewable in 800x600 witout making the page have scrollbars at the bottom.

Use 775.. or max 777.

I got with 720 on must designs but thats just me maybe...
Unless requested to be wider.

720 might be thin but it allows plenty of room to enjoy whats being presented without blasting in the viewers face.

It depends on the browser and operating system. I remember looking into this years ago and decided that 740 was safe.

You could always use hahahahahahahahahaha to dynamically set the page to the widest width.

1024x768 is just for new kids with a pc

besides, most clients are old guys that can only read at 800x600 :P

I usually design at 750.

also remember AOL further decreases the size of the window.

You can maximize it, but as soon as you get an IM it auto defaults back to their wierd size w/ margins behind which you can view buddy lists etc.

an AOL user at 800x600 usually only has a window about 640 wide.
sounds like a small consideration, but it's a large chunk of our membership.

I use dreamweavermx a lot. For 800x600 resolution the recommended width and height is 760x420 pixels. But in my case i always use 740 pixels. The trick is you should always center it and leave the sides as auto width.:thumbsup
