Wackiest Warning Labels Ever

Warning on a bottle of drain cleaner: "If you do not understand, or cannot read, all directions, cautions and warnings, do not use this product."

That warning is the first place winner of the 2004 Wacky Warning Label Contest. The Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, a group whose goal is to show that the fear of frivolous lawsuits has led to a loss of corporate common sense, sponsors the annual contest for the wackiest warning labels..

what's sad is that they even have to put those warnings there in the first place... it's amazing some people might actually need those directions

I gotta tell ya, that "don't use blowdryer in shower" label has saved my ass numerous times.

I used to eat the silica gel bags, until i found out it wasn't for consumption.

What up wit dat?

I'm always surprised when I see the warning on the back of a soda bottle. "Point away from face while opening."

Really? How many people have been injured opening a soda?

Mike AI 01-21-2004 01:49 PM

Thanks to trial lawyers, and frivolous lawsuits companies have to do all it can to protect itself from stupid people, and greedy attorneys.

The US needs major tort reform.... or the swarm of attorneys will continue to grow and will kill business in the US.

Just think how many would be injured were that warning absent!

I hurt myself when I wore my baseball cleats in my crotch because I forgot my cup. No warning label at all! I should sue.

Sly_RJ 01-21-2004 02:03 PM

I don't think it's a matter of people being extremely stupid. I think it's more of a matter of people sueing companies over little silly things simply because they can. It's abuse of the justice system.

RockDaddy 01-21-2004 02:07 PM

Thank god they finally started putting the "hot" warnings on coffee cups. I really got tired of all the trips to the emergency rooms with 3rd degree burns on my crotch!

Thanks for that reminder; every once in a while I need to use one as a throwback to the military days when I had more than the three pieces I now have left:-)))
