If so, how profitable are they and is the corporation easy to deal with?

New York City has a pretty elaborate Subway system... They've increased security due to terrorism though...

I should own a subway restraunt for as much as I eat there.
Don't even have to order my sub anymore, just get in line and walk up the register. Same sub all the time.

I used to own several Blimpie's. Stay away from low end fast food. It's too many hours of struggle for not enough return.

I know a guy in seattle who owns one and he works more than he wants to just to make money

There was a good study done on franchising, by Harvard recently. In essence it said that it is much harder for a company to be profitable under a franchise, then as a sole business, and that the % chance of failure is higher with a franchise.

I bought a Subway last week. Yummy.

Actually in Vegas we ate at Subway every morning around 3AM in some casino. It tasted like absolute shit. I really like Subway, but this place was nasty!

We all run franchises... peddling porn is something we do for fun on the side just to annoy gov'ts and activist groups.

i owned a 12inch sub last nite.

Franchising is a shitload of work for less than $1 million yearly. I'd never do it. The same amount of work in porn (employees plus expenses) would make you $10 million+ here. The only way to make a ton franchising is by having multiple locations.

Fuck Subway, how difficult can it be to make sandwiches by yourself? And it'll avoid you having to send Subway $10.000 a month just to use their name and (ugly) logo. Just copy their recipes, and open your own restaurant. And if it's good, you can franchise off your name to suckers who'll pay you just for the privilege of using your brand name.

You'd be better off opening a domino's pizza, there's still way more money in pizza. A friend of mine owns 6 and does pretty well.

I think the key is that he owns 6. There's money to be made in franchises, you just need volume.

The key and success to Subway is that they know how to market themselves better than any other place like them.

Agreed. I used to own a couple of Dunkin Donuts franchisee's and it basically just wasn't worth the aggrevation, especially when you see what you make for putting up with the craziness. Franchisors like Subway must provide you with a prospectus with what you are getting yourself into...when you show interest, and it clearly shows that you are basically buying yourself a shit full-time job as you cannot make money (for the average volume franchise) if you don't work there yourself or if you don't have multiple locations. Not worth it and the food business is punishing on your mind and body like nothing else.

This is a real story of a friend of mine who was almost BROKE to a point he was about to lose his house.

He ran a deli for years in a area with little competition he made money so he upped his lifestyle not knowing that real soon 2 others will start delis in the area.

Then an idea hit him that changed everything, he hired a REAL hot chic to stand behind the counter and take the money from customers.

It didnt take long for his repeat business ratio to go up 100%, he told me guys come in there more often and have better manners as well.

He is now repeating this technique in many ventures.

Its not fair, but that phenomenon was so true at my Dunkin Donuts. I would hire a busty hottie for the morning rush and it brightened up people's day and my bottom line.

Restaurants everywhere are like this. I never have an unattractive waiter or waitress.

Many variables are calculated, one major factor being what franchise. A McDonald's or Krispy Kreme is different from a KFC.

Even the average McDonald's franchisee nowadays is not profitable (in the US). The franchisee's are up in arms over encrouchment and that "just in time" cooking scheme they put in place a few years back.
