is there a virus that does this?

Everytime I try to boot up, the computer restarts... I get the loading windows screen for xp, but it never reaches the desktop, it just reboots!

and the bios is now password protected!

Get your BIOS battery out of socket and then plug it back. Your BIOS will be unlocked. But what do u suppose to do with the BIOS? :)

thanks.. I was gonna try booting up windows from the cd, so I wanted to change the first drive boot... I ended up swapping another motherboard in and doing this and at least now I can boot into windows fine... I think I will put the old motherboard in now and removing the battery and replacing it and see if that fixes the password problem... thanks

Sometimes you have to leave the battery out for quite some time.

Better to short out the bios, or better yet , just go buy a bios chip and replace it :)
