Bill Would Outlaw Loud Music In Cars

Bill Would Outlaw Loud Music In Cars
Blast Car Stereos, Get Fined

RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia State Del. Benny Keister says he wants to introduce a bill in the General Assembly that would outlaw sound systems in cars that can be heard from more than 50 feet away.

Keister said that he is tired of hearing car stereos as he watches television in his home at night.

He also said that young people are endangering their hearing by playing music too loud.

And Keister said research shows that blind pedestrians can become disoriented by loud music from vehicles.

What do you all think of that ?

There is a lot of truth in that

Gabriel 01-20-2004 01:40 PM

There is a time and place for it.

pushpills 01-20-2004 01:41 PM

there already are laws in your local area that you can't have your music so loud it can be heard from 50 feet away.

but laws are meant to be broken :thumbsup

KRL 01-20-2004 01:44 PM

Good and its about time. I hate pulling up to a light when you have your windows open and some punk pulls up next to you blasting 1000 watts of crap music out of his 20 loudspeakers.

You know the dumb fuck is already hard of hearing from it and probably thinks he has the volume turned down.

yeah, in your garage when no one else is around.

50 feet isn't very far. You could probably hear even a small radio from that far away. I'm sure it's more like a certain db level at 50 feet that will be outlawed.

Axzar 01-20-2004 01:46 PM

dude needs to get out of Delaware and move to Texas!

i get glee out of rattling the car next to me

jasmine 01-20-2004 01:52 PM

I agree there is a time an a place for listening to loud music. I love music but, usually listen to it when I am home working and playing. I don't blare it in the car at all :thumbsup

Mr Pheer 01-20-2004 01:54 PM

these fuckin kids that live in my neighborhood piss me off with that shit, boom boom boom at 11pm

com 01-20-2004 01:56 PM

Goddamn kids these days with their baggy clothes and hiphop music.

Ya know what... fuck this goober. If I want to listen to music loud, and your stereo can't mask mine then FUCK YOU. But in all honesty, you will be cited by a police officer here in california if your music is audible from a fair distance. However to outlaw a soundsystem or product thereof simply because it is CAPABLE of being heard from that distance is complete shite. Lets just go ahead and outlaw any car thats capable of going over the speed limit.

As long I don't have this in Canada I just don't give a fuck :)

421Fill 01-20-2004 02:33 PM

It's been illegal in California for years... I actually got pulled over and given a ticket for it about 10 years ago. Nowadays, I wouldn't play my car stereo that loud again, and I think it's a damn good law... just not being able to hear sirens, etc is enough for it to be a good law, imo.

loverboy 01-20-2004 02:37 PM

there's a place for everything, just right for car safety. you don't want to get pulled over.

Well thats all the gangsta rappers fucked then!! How they gonna shoot their vids without the bouncing car and the loud radio!!

iroc409 01-20-2004 02:39 PM

we have that law already.

puresexnow 01-20-2004 03:10 PM

Here in OZ, if a cop thinks your stereo is so loud that you could not hear an approaching siren on a police car/fire truck/ambulance, then you can get fined for excessive noise.

There's excessive noise for exhaust pipes too, but for some reason, Harley's don't have to conform to the DB limit and they're above it from the factory.

CamChicks 01-20-2004 03:29 PM

good.

One of my first apartments was in a neighbourhood where, if it wasn't repetative bassthumbing rap, it was high-pitched shrill mariachi music. You couldn't sleep. I hope the cops beat down these ignorant selfish inconsiderate posers. Have some fucking manners and respect for those around you.

And that muffler that makes your car sound broken doesn't make you sound cool. It makes you sound poor.

And stop talking during the movie (it's the same people), or I'm going to mase you.

Now if the gov't would just outlaw those equally loud ice cream trucks that came around 8 times a day.

nathan_f 01-20-2004 03:41 PM

It's all about courtesy. When I pull up to stop lights, or are in a downtown or residential area, I turn the shit down.

Simple as that.

We dont need laws for people that pull up to lights or put gas in their car with their stereo cranked and windows down (I've seen it!)

We need bricks through windshields.

I've always thaught that was bullshit. I get woken up more by harleys reving high down the road then i ever do by some rice rocket with a fart pipe.

Hey I use to live in Oceanside. Where abouts do you live there ?

I was living on Camp Pendleton :) I believe Del Mar

Greg B 01-20-2004 07:27 PM

50ft??? It should be 5 ft away. Anybody with music that loud to extend 50 ft away can't hear the sirens or the 'hey stop it's a kid' noises a driver needs to hear.

People in this country drive like they fuck. No wonder the divorce rate is so high.

Driving is simple.

Eyes on the road,

BOTH hands on the wheel,

LOOK before you leap,

There's no place on Earth you have to be that you have to drive a 3 ton metallic combustion machine at high speeds.

Pedestrians have the right of way,

If you rear end another vehicle, it wasn't driving too slow, you're just an arrogant impatience piece of shit.

Morgan 01-20-2004 07:33 PM

what about his neighbors home systems? is he going to outlaw that shit too? There is a noise law for both residences and vehicles. Just like there is a speed limit... are they going to limit cars in the US to 70 mph?

stocktrader23 01-20-2004 07:34 PM

My truck came from the factory with a Pioneer CD/ Tape deck and 10 inch sub. Some music is meant to be heard loud.

Dildozer 01-20-2004 07:34 PM

Sound systems can be annoying but NEVER EVER LIKE FUCKING RICERS WITH

FART PIPES

Number1Thumb 01-20-2004 07:35 PM

Fuck around in Aurora , Illinois and they take your shit on the spot, and as for Harleys, they have been allowed loud pipes to make other drivers aware of their presence.

I love listening to anti's rant and rave about something so passionately.

Reminds me of:

FUCKING PORN SITES SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE FUCKING INTERNET! KIDS CAN SEE THAT SHIT IN 5 SECONDS IF THEY WANT TO! LOOK AT HOW FUCKED UP THE COUNTRY IS, IT'S ALL CAUSE OF THE PORN!!!!!!!!!! :1orglaugh

Homegrownvideo 01-20-2004 11:05 PM

I don't agree with this.

What's worse? Having to put up with someone blasting music in their car as they drive by? (5 minutes at a stop light, or a minute or so at home when some inconsiderate person drives by)

Or having your neighbor blast music hours and hours every day at full volume?

Your neighbors house isn't going to leave the area in a few minutes...

acctman 01-20-2004 11:29 PM

so now the gov't cares about our hearing. what a bunch of crap, i love my LOUD system.

and the guy who laid on his horn at the stop light, that's just stupid and asking for trouble. it's 2mins or less at a light not worth pissing someone off and getting shot at. beside the car horn is an emergency type device, not suppose to be used just to lay on cause you don't like someones stereo system

Mr. Marks 01-20-2004 11:35 PM

That's a good law.

If I wanted to hear some ass hat's booming music 12 blocks away, I'd buy the damn CD.

Fucking noise pollution is what it is.

PersianKitty 01-20-2004 11:35 PM

But then how will I know when I son is 4 blocks from the house? :1orglaugh

shepherd 01-20-2004 11:55 PM

Reminds me.. about four years ago I was driving in Manhattan with few guys with a new expedition, loud speakers.. windows down, feeling good.. stopped at a red light and music blasting.. and who's SCREAMING next to me?? the cops !
Didn't hear them for about 2 minutes until my friends told me.. lower down the music :)
they looked at me funny.. I was glad when the light changed to green !

indeed. you do something like that with me and you're asking for trouble. I had a guy yesterday cut me off with his little beatle (and I drive a tahoe).. guess what? I passed him and stopped the car right in front of him for two minutes.. he used his horn, I put the volume up.. can't hear that little horn :)

chodadog 01-20-2004 11:59 PM

I agree with it. The point about these people damaging their ears is a good one, but i'm surprised nobody mentioned anything about emergency services. I have a friend, who's system is so loud, that he cannot hear the siren from a firetruck, police car, or ambulance.

That should be one of the major points of pushing this bill, i think. I've seen it a few times where all these cars are moving out of the way for an ambulance, only to be held up by some fuckwit who can't hear the siren 'cause his sound system is blaring.
