God I love stupid cops

Ok, there's a blizard here the other day and I took one of my quads downtown to get some gas so I could use my snowplow and clean my and several neighbors driveways. The roads were 4x4 only - and one lane a that. The town head cop comes towards me in a 4x4 sideways, pulls me over and gives me a ticket for operating an off road vechile in town. I explained to the idiot cop that it was a blizard and his only response was that a state of emergency hadn't been declaired. I guess I pissed him off by saying that I wasn't aware that were were now living in a police state. I basically told him to his face that he was an idiot and he got all tough with me threatening to arrest me and such. I told him to go ahead and do it, as I have the legal right to question his judgement if it's in a non threatening manor and if he aretsed me I would file a complaint with his superiors and to go right ahead and do it and then kiss any further promotions goodbye. He backed down but still gave me a $180 ticket.

Ok, #1 I was in the ditch, where it's legal to operate an ATV

#2 it was a blizard and SAFER to use the ATV than my car (wife took the truck to work)

#3 the cop was comming at me sideways the roads were so bad - and there were kids playing on the street - very unsafe driving of the cop.

that alone would get me off the ticket, but - now remember this is the sargent of my town, not just a cop - he forgot to fill out the ticket properly and didn't list the act and section of the law that i was infringing . What a total fucking idiot - as any ticket not properly filled out by an officer is 99% of the time thrown out of court. I have to at least know what law I'm breaking if I'm to have a chance of defending myself.

what a fucking idiot cop.

i've been to court more than 10 times for traffic shit - won every time and never needed a lawyer.

it's not even worth my time to goto court for $180 - but i enjoy winning so I always fight every ticket I get

I always get out of tickets by name dropping that I know Shemp.

kmanrox 01-20-2004 01:34 PM

i've found if u even show up to the traffic court, just by showing up they will drop the ticket or slash the price because you took the time and effort

Ice 01-20-2004 01:34 PM

You should have given him two tickets to your next TGP party and told him he could sell them on ebay for some good coin

exactly - 1/2 the time the cop doesn't show up and you automatically win in that case too

that sucks, being from a small town i know the cops can be pricks sometimes.

At least you didn't get arrested, cuffs hurt.

Take it to court, i bet you get off. The safety issue alone should help you enough.

I love cops... armed with a high school diploma, a badge and a gun, they think their version of the "law" is right. I've had more cases where I've verbally duked it out with those hahahahas till they're red in the face, but still can't nail me with anything. What's worse though is when they write you a ticket for something that's utter bullshit, and you know your tax money is paying their checks while you two sit around and burn your time in court. ;P

exactly

I have had the same ticket. I lost in court. They tacked on an extra couple hundred for court costs.

There is a 24 foot area on each side of the road that is owned by the dept of highways.

If your in that area you must have an operating license and insurance for any motor vehicle ( above 50 cc engine ).

I got hit with / no helmet / no license / no insurance / operating in a hazardous manner ? / operating while under the influence / etc etc.

I argued i was on private property. No go.

i have an offroad licence and insurance for my quads, i was sober and i always wear a helmet.

During a blizard I'm SAFER than the vechile the cop was driving as he was comming sideways at me.

CDSmith 01-20-2004 04:26 PM

I don't know that Canada has that 24-foot rule. I see snowmobiles flying down the ditches beside highways and rural roads ALL the time here, don't see anyone getting tickets about it.
