What gym do you go to?

and waht do you LIKE about it and what do you DISLIKE about it?

I am going to go to Bally's Total Fitness after 'work' today and take a tour. They gave David and I each a free 2 week guest pass. I had a membership to Gold's Gym, but stopped going because it was a total meat-market and the overly-steroided guys (you know the ones...they wear those tacky blue tiger-stripped pants with the tacky velcro waist...they have over-developed their arms to the point that they cannot reach their own backs to scratch...) would not leave me alone.

I am WAY out of shape and want to find a cool gym with fun classes ...

suggestions?

NaughtyJenn 01-19-2004 04:36 PM

local gym here in Pardubice city in Czech rep. The owner is a good guy and friend of mine.
I have just got back to office from there.

freeadultcontent 01-19-2004 04:38 PM

join an all girl gym, then ya only have to worry about lesbians.

Personally I wouldnt join one and would just buy a piece of good equipment.

What went wrong with Bally's for you?

Yo Adrian 01-19-2004 04:39 PM

I go to a local athletic club in my neighborhood.. lot of raquet ball courts and such. Great because it's never crowded and all the equipment is new, not to mention it has a full basketball court.. only downside is the hours, they close early on weekends.

McDonalds.... hey, some of those burgers are heavy!

9:30?? Man you've got it made.. I have to wake up at 6:30am just to go and make it into the office at a decent time.

raceman 01-19-2004 04:45 PM

I used to think "blinking" at my PC was enough to keep fit until the wife spotted the "spare tyre" appearing

"he he he he he"

:thumbsup

and we all know that you have to listen to her, I have to, her tongue is "nuclear"

Smart, beautiful and kicks ass!

Amber C 01-19-2004 04:55 PM

I'm not sure if they have 24 Hour Fitness clubs where you are, but I would recommend going to one of those. The one I go to here in Vegas is really nice & has a ton of differrent machines to work out on, plus my personal trainer is awesome

webair 01-19-2004 04:56 PM

world gym

mad hotties

Vitasoy 01-19-2004 04:56 PM

I've got a membership at fitness world :)

FreeNetPass Jenefer 01-19-2004 05:20 PM

Just Ladies Fitness

I love the fact that its girls only. Cuz then I actually focus on my workout. Instead of looking at guys or feeling like the puney girl.

But I might switch to a boy/girl gym when my membership expires cuz I have a few male friends I'd like to go with on a regualr basis.

Or I might buy some home equipment I'm not sure yet.

I go to ballys as well but in NY

kaylacam 01-19-2004 05:23 PM

I *used* to have my own gym in my house...

and I took kick boxing lessons...My Home Gym

I miss those days SOOOO incredibly much! I want to get back in that kind of shape...

My 6-pack turned in to a 2 litre and is now threatening to become a party ball! ACK!

BTW...McDonalds calls them Shakes instead of MilkShakes because there is not actually milk in them....

TaylorM 01-19-2004 05:28 PM

I belong to 24 Hour Fitness. I got so tired of the lines for the weights and the travel time to and from. We now have a BowFlex at home and I do step aerobics.

Kayla, step is fun! Get Gin Miller tapes.

myneid 01-19-2004 05:29 PM

if you are in teh los angeles area, theres a great gym in studio city near the jerrys that burned down and is back again. that gym is really small and you have to have a personal trainer to go there. (but you can use the gym anytime. and when you sign up with a personal trainer you get free access to the gym for like 12 weeks or something, after that is pretty cheap)

if you want a good personal trainer there, you can email ryan at
ozstylefitness at yahoo dot com dot au

yes he's an aussie and thats an aussie email address.

gregtx 01-19-2004 05:30 PM

http://www.lifetimefitness.com/

its like a freaking resort... most equipment I've ever seen in any facility... and top notch personal trainers.. ex pro atheletes.. matter of fact.. Neon Deion Sanders just joined :winkwink:

CrazyNakedChick 01-19-2004 05:42 PM

only have a small gym and a Bally's close to me. at the small gym i had the same problems you encountered, nobody would leave me alone and just let me work out.

i stopped in at Bally's one time, the sales chicks there were far too pushy for me. i ended up just getting up and walking out after having to say "I don't want a lifetime membership" for the tenth time.

Plan9 01-19-2004 05:43 PM

I just go to the Gym in my Apt. building. Its not the best, but it has most of what I need and I can't beat it for sheer convenience.

vending_machine 01-19-2004 05:47 PM

Go to any of the big ones, be it Bally's, 24hr Fitness, or Golds Gym, you will always run into the same problem as you did with sleazy dudes. Either find an all girls gym or find a small local one that isn't a franchise. Most likely you will pay less and get to work out in a much better environemnt..

bogo 01-19-2004 05:50 PM

Ballys - didnt have any problems there, although got distracted a lot from the chicks.

Golds gym - some musclehead dropped a 45lb plate on my toe and broke it.i sued them for $$.They went belly-up long ago.

Premier- thats were im going now and its not too bad.
:2 cents:

I goto a local gym with a friend who moved out here from L.A. He used to belong to Bally's and is always saying how bad it is compared to the new gym. Biggest complaint was it was always packed and he had to wait to use equipment.

Mrdredd 01-19-2004 05:53 PM

Stayin Alive Fitness Center of palm beach

I heard they got places across USA though - by diff names, etc.

4 days a week for weights at the gym, and run the entire week

Those 24 hour fitness guys keep bugging me even after I said I joined another gym! Best Bet is to join a local gym

valley hina 01-19-2004 06:00 PM

i go to the gym that they have at the college that i go to

frippeno 01-19-2004 06:02 PM

I went to 24-hour Fitness for several years, and with a couple minor exceptions it was a good deal.

but a couple months back I bought a Powertec Leverage Home Gym and I much prefer doing a workout at home.

You should see my rippling pecs :)

I had a Bowflex for a few years, but I rarely used it... going to the gym motivates me
