Why is usenet spaming illegal ?

Why is spamming newsgroups banned by most sponsors?
Why can't I go there and post a link to www.my-domain.com and tell them to visit my site for "hot nude teens" ( or whatever ).

I mean, why is this considered spamming?
I agree that mailbox spamming is really annoying and time and $$ consuming...but why are newsgroups banned, too?

If someone goes to alt.sex.pictures ( or somethinbg similar ), he is looking for sex pics, right?
So why should someone ban me, if I decide to post a link to my free site or tgp on that newsgroup.

This is a serious question, since I completely cannot think of a reasonable answer :feels-hot

Because it still is spam and eventho its not the worst spam in the world sponsors simply have to say no spamming allowed.
If they start saying. No spamming allowed BUT you can do this and you can do that unless you blah blah...it will result in chaos.

Its not "illegal" actually to post ANYTHING in Usenet, but depending on your usenet provider, they can shitcan your account.

Usenet servers are all held in Cornell, it was the first method of internet communication, the only people that actually own it is Cornell University, and trust me, if they flip the switch all of usenet goes down.

Most providers though as long as you "stay on topic" wont care what you post unless you do a MASS flood.

Tell yea, if your promoting your OWN site, slip a FEW images in a group that deals with that subject , put your url on the bottom of the image, if they want to see more, theyll go to your site.

Dont be like Naughty Jenn though and spam all 600k newsgroups with 12 naked pictures of you all in seperate postings and cross postings to 5 different groups.

Imagine going to your favorite Well baby newsgroup to chat with all the other mothers and you see Naughty jenns ugly mug staring back at you ass in the air with her crusty corn hole spread.

That will get you shitcanned VERY quickly.

Best spamming Usenet service I know of that is the most lax is http://www.easynews.com

Yes, I've heard that it's pretty worthless now ( never tried before, since I am in this biz only since 1.5 years ).

But I cannot agree with Battuss this time...
On alt.sport.soccer, ppl talk about soccer, on alt.business.banking about banks and on alt.sex.teen.xxx they want to see "teen xxx".
So someone has to post there something ( if not, there would be no newsgroup ).
So why cannot I simply tell them: "hi, here is some cool site with links to different teen pornsites and some free pics".... perhaps some of them may actually appreciate that :Graucho

I'm just wondering why you say if Cornell University flipped the switch, there would be no more usenet? My understanding of usenet servers is that they get their feeds from other usenet servers. So if I post to one, it is sent to another and then another and so forth. Isn't it just one big spider web of usenet connections with no central hub?

VideoVoyeur 01-19-2004 07:52 AM

Cornell owns the usenet servers they sell out "feeds" to isps.

They actually developed it, they run it, when you want a new group in usenet or to make one, you email people at cornell.

The "Hub" for usenet is Cornell, when you post it goes to their server, when you refresh it shows on any server that carries that group.

Usenet members are generally a bunch of oversensitive freeloaders. Spamming them generates worthless traffic and burns bandwich, nothing more. Why do it?

And usenetters will complain vigorously.... the last thing sponsors want to deal with is a ton of email from pissed off freeloaders over YOUR spamming.

Why not be discreet about it? Go into usenet and actually take part in relevant discussions, make yourself a cut-and-paste text sig and put a discreet link in there. I used to do that from time to time and no one ever complained about it. Sure beats outright spam that pisses everyone off and gets you canned.
