Verizon or T-Mobile?

I need to know... who has the best service and range for the money? I love the new LG phone but if I get that phone I have to go with Verizon.

what are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Chuck

skrog 01-19-2004 01:35 AM

My friend has t-mobile...its pretty decent! My other friend has verizon. Everytime she calls me. I can barely hear her..:2 cents:

[Brian] 01-19-2004 01:35 AM

I have the LG phone too and I think Verizon's service is a bit better. :2 cents:

fsfaz 01-19-2004 01:37 AM

In CA, it's all about Verizon and Nextel (in that order).

Of course this is my opinion but I wouldn't touch T-Mobile even if it came with Mrs. Jones herself.

vapewiz 01-19-2004 01:39 AM

That new LG phone is only digital, if you go to places where they only have analog signal your not going to be happy.

to answer you other question I use verizon and am happy for 2.5 years now.

Verizon has the largest network of cell coverage of anyone.

nice one KRL!

[Brian] 01-19-2004 01:51 AM

Looks like if you live in Montana or Kentucky you're pretty much out of the cellphone game :1orglaugh

KRL 01-19-2004 01:51 AM

What's hilarious is the way AT&T and Sprint try to make their cell network look as big as Verizon's by color coding the whole country when in fact if you look at the small map code only the dark is their network, the rest is roaming on Verizon's.

You're welcome.

I really don't know how anyone could live out in the middle of nowhere. I can't imagine not having all the action, shopping, restaurant choices, entertainment, etc. that major metro areas provide.

My mother grew up in upstate Pennsylvania in a small town. They had one main street with some basic stores, a couple of small restaurants and that was it. The nearest hospital was an hour drive. I'd go nutz just when we visited the place as kid driving up to see her parents.

Doesn't Tmobile have no roaming charges?

4Pics 01-19-2004 03:50 AM

Verizon doesn't offer anything decent in the way of minutes. Same thing with Nextel, you are easily over $100 a month with either of them for any amount of minutes. Even with Nextel's incomming free it doesn't matter.

Also, does it matter if you roam on Verizon? If it's free who cares what lines are what. Tmobile/Suckular/AT&T all share for their GSM's.

no roaming charges, 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, $40/mo (approx)

I've got 1600 Mins days and unlimited nights and weekends, web, txt, pics, for $79.95 base plan plus 2 extra cell phones which brings it out to about $140 a month with taxes and everything.

gornyhuy 01-19-2004 11:36 AM

No complaints about verizon - been with them for almost 4 years now.

Hollywood Horwitz 01-19-2004 12:37 PM

its like my female roomie says,"if your a girl,go w/Verizon for the best service,if your a dude,go with T-Mobile for the cool phones and cheap rates"..

MichaelP 01-19-2004 12:54 PM

Wow Txs KRL ! :thumbsup

I lost my Bell Mobility (canada) phone the first night of the internext in Vegas, so I had to buy another phone for the rest of the week. I bought a T-Mobile and got Bell transfer my call to this Vegas phone number. It was working OK in Vegas and very good in LA... :2 cents:

myjah 01-19-2004 01:05 PM

i had a very bad experience with Verizon. that was a few years ago, but i'll never use them again.

KRL - the info you have for AT&T isn't complete, and the statement you made about Verizon isn't accurate.

That AT&T map is ONLY for the mLIFE NATIONAL service plan, they have the mLIFE DIGITAL ONE RATE plane gives you unlimited roaming and long distance throughout all of the light area too - meaning that you don't have to pay for anything but airtime, regardless of where you are on either the light or dark areas. It comes with 350 minutes and you can have unlimited nights and weekends too. AT&T has by far the largest coverage area in the states - and that's not an opinion, that's fact. The coverage you get is determined almost entirely by the plan, not by the coverage area dictating the size of the network.

What's more, if you don't travel outside of your state, then you'd be of more benefit on the mLIFE LOCAL plan which has a home calling area the size of your entire state in most states. Just for example - the home calling area of California includes almost 100% of California, Oregon, Washington State, parts of Nevada and parts of Idaho - meaning that providing you place a call from your cellphone while you are inside of that area, the call is local. The mLife Local plan home calling area is determined by your primary place of usage.

ZoiNk 01-19-2004 01:11 PM

The real question is where are the top 2 locations you will be using it. Aka office and home. How close to your companies towers are that. That should be the real choice. How your reception is 90% of the time. Sure, you might technically have coverage, but are you going to miss out every 1/5 words b/c of not being close enough to a tower.

get verizon. I've have cingular, ATT and nextel. Nextel is the best, but it's moire $$$. Verizon is great and the LG phone is a great deal plus works well.

Verizon claims they have the largest network also. Its probably fairly close in size.

Dravyk 01-19-2004 01:33 PM

KRL, great post! But if you also have a Nextel map or URL handy for comparison, appreciate it.

Nevermind, found one: http://www.nextel.com/services/cover...erage&id3=home

t-mobile

bagel 01-19-2004 01:53 PM

Verizon definitely has better phone service, but as far as their customer service it's aweful.

myneid 01-19-2004 01:58 PM

Its all about verizon. In southern california we have access to all teh carriers and everyone of them should be good. my friends that use sprint , t-mobile and cingular are constantly using my phone to make calls cause htey dont get reception.

one reason to go with t-mobile though is that they have good data rates if thats important and your phone will work in europe and most of the rest of the world.

Probono 01-19-2004 02:05 PM

I have used T-mobile for years because of International portability. I did get better reception in Moscow and Paris than I get at home. It's all a balance of what you need, where you are going to use it and what you are willing to pay each month. If any one carrier was perfect for everyone there would only be one carrier.

One more note T-moble support is excellent. I lost my phone at Internext and if I ahd opted for overnight delivery I would have had a preplacement before i left Las Vegas, as is I had it waiting for me when I arrived home.

axelcat 01-19-2004 02:06 PM

verizon has great customer support
