Rorschach 01-19-2004 03:08 AM

North Americans just can't play rugby and should just give up now, and stick to that game they play with all the pads.

And Aussies etc. should keep playing grabass under the illusion that no pads means it's a tougher sport. Last I checked there were no pads used in ballet either.

And he's about to spank him, too. And goddamn, some of the pansies giving stocktrader shit for mocking people in wheelchairs; shut the fuck up. He's not mocking their disability, the sport is just fucking stupid. PC pansies.

flashfire 01-19-2004 04:32 AM

That Canadian in the wheelchair would kick your ass!

chodadog 01-19-2004 04:41 AM

Why are wheelchair sports "fucking stupid"?

I have respect for anyone who can overcome their disability and try to do as much as they can. I don't see the need to cut them down for what they do. What do you suggest those people do? Sit in the corner and watch the paint dry?

No, choose a better sport.

I never said all wheelchair sports were stupid. It's rugby for christ's sake. A sport with rucks, mauls, and big bastards clearing out the opposition. I'm sure the game has it's own merits, but it's not rugby, and it's silly to call it as such.

johnbosh 01-19-2004 06:15 AM

ol

CDSmith 01-19-2004 06:16 AM

The bottom line here is that all Canadians are insane in sports. Phear us. Even our disabled are ruthless and will cut you off at the knees given the chance.

I guess that's why the title of the page is "Wheelchair Rugby" and not "Rugby"

Listen to what you're saying, you're calling their sport stupid just because they play it in wheelchairs. Don't you think they would love more than anything to be able to play it like normal people? I'm sure they would if they could, but they can't, so they're doing the next best thing.

Although the sport they're playing must have some compromised rules, they seem to enjoy playing it, and that really ought to be all that matters. Why you gotta rain on their parade?

chodadog 01-19-2004 06:37 AM

It doesn't resemble rugby in any way, shape, or form. So even calling it wheelchair rugby is just.. stupid.

Their sport is not stupid because they play it in wheelchairs. The sport is stupid because they try to call it rugby.

This whole "we may be cripples, but we can do everything you can do" shit is so tired. And that's all it is. I imagine having their own sports, suitable to their ability, would be more enjoyable than playing a "compromised" version of a sport and having to whack wheelchair in front of the name.

Of course, you get exceptions, like wheelchair basketball. Something like that is good, because the game is actually played as it normally would be. They just happen to be in a wheelchair when they play.

I think a lot of these people feel compromised enough as it is without having to participate in a sport with compromised rules.

CDSmith 01-19-2004 06:52 AM

Choda, if you sat your ass in a wheelchair and went a few rounds with them you'd change your tune.

Western Canadians take their rugby very serious. Not sure how popular it is out East though.

If Vancouver finally builds a good outdoor stadium, I expect the rugby in Canada to vastly improve as they could practice all year long.

Thats why canada invented basketball...
