Think about it realistically.

You don't get scammed unless you're being greedy.

marinate on that for a bit

I've never been greedy either. The closest I came to being scammed was ordering some dumb shit off late night tv.

How exactly is buying content being greedy? Because you want to make a profit? Yeh, ok...

Spunky 01-18-2004 09:02 PM

Scammed in what sense? Elaborate

Other day I was in the pub chilling with my drink when these 2 dudes sat down & started talking about Ebay, anyway they were going on about ripping people off.

You're looking on the surface of what I'm saying. It's possible to be scammed without being greedy but it's rare. You get scammed when you get greedy, because you think you're getting a great deal, you're too secretive because you don't want others to know about your great deal, or you think you've found something that's going to make you a lot of money. These are the typical ways scams happen, scammers typically take advantage of the fact that people are money obsessed.

Holly 01-18-2004 09:06 PM

Wrong.

He agreed to make a small logo for Daymare for $100 bucks, which he never delivered or refunded the money. That wasn't greed, that was just him being a conniving asshole.

Ash@phpFX 01-18-2004 09:06 PM

No, I knew that's what you were leaning towards. You're trying to be all philosophical and anal about retarded everyday shit.

According to you, everyone on this Earth is too greedy for their own good. Fine, you're right. We're all greedy so we deserve to be scammed.

I'm definitely not saying anything like that. Scammers are scum but greed is no beautiful thing. No one deserves to get scammed.

down with capitalism!!

Sly_RJ 01-18-2004 09:11 PM

Haha. Ok, so we're all greedy but shouldn't get too upset if we get scammed because greed leads to being scammed?

If anything, greed leads one to scam another.

Dude.. if it wasnt for greed there would be no difference between
us and a bunch of uhm.. camels.

Greed is human nature and definitely a beautiful thing.

It seperates the weak from the strong.

Very true. Excuse me for thinking in a philosophical mode tonight. I'm not commenting on anyones personal situation just in general.

Has anyone ever told you sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

Furious_Male 01-18-2004 09:13 PM

I tend to see people (including myself on occassion) get scammed more when we become complacent.

This day and age we all look for that glimmer of hope that there are still good people left out there. No one wants to be the paranoid untrusting kind of person so sometimes we let our guard down.

Sly_RJ 01-18-2004 09:14 PM

But you're right, I am greedy. Greed is what puts me in front of my computer on a Sunday night building new sites instead of being plopped in front of the TV watching Simpson's reruns.

Greed = motivation ?

I do think that's true in some cases where some of it amounts to wanting to trust and allowing that chance. But I think a larger amount of it is due to being greedy. But you are definitely right that some of it happens the way you put it.

I don't think so man, I think one can be motivated without being greedy. The desire for success alone does not make you a greedy it's how much that desire consumes you and takes you out of thinking in a smart way.

Sly_RJ 01-18-2004 09:18 PM

What's your definition of greed?

Thought and debate is a good thing sometimes man, I just like to pick brains and debate issues, nothing personal here.

And Sly I think I outlined that, I wouldn't make a personal judgement on you since that's not my place. I think each person can determine what is greedy to them and how it affects them, simply being motivated to be successful doesn't mean you're a greedy person.

quiet 01-18-2004 09:20 PM

The point is ladies and gentlemen... Greed, for lack of a better word is good. Greed is right; Greed works; Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Greed in all it's forms; Greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind...

detoxed 01-18-2004 09:24 PM

You order porn for a free trial and get billed $200. Where is the greed?

funkmaster 01-18-2004 09:31 PM

FALSE: All of our webmasters are greedy, no one is getting scammed though, go figure. I love greedy webmasters. keep em' comming.

Greed is not a good thing sorry you feel that way. Motivation for success is, but outright greed is not and always leads to a bad end.

I think maybe we're looking at things in similar ways but you don't realize it. This is the definition of greed so if this is good then I'm glad I'm not greedy

not always true. i haven't been 'scammed' in years (for anything worth complaining about) but in early 99. i just promoted a site, nothing 'scammy' about it, just a regular paysite. i made about 3000 bucks with them in a period. waited my check, waited...emailed them..nothing. of course i didn't know about boards back then, nor did i really know others in the industry so there wasn't anything i could do. i wasn't greedy. i do agree tho that if those ppl promoting the paris scam don't get paid, surely they knew it was a risk.
