Atkins issues warning about their diet
|
All I know is my father dropped three pants sizes, his cholestol dropped 20 points and he now have to take less meds for his heart condition. He looks ten years younger and feels great on atkins.

That site is full of such crap. I subscribe to the Atkins newsletter and there is nothing in it or on the site about this.
Isn't this the same site that "broke the news" about the girl with "x-ray vision"? :1orglaugh |
If they can't even spell "Atkins" I wouldn't believe a word of it

Anyway, Atkins has always been a proponent of limiting saturated (bad) fats - of which lean meats contain little. |
But it is on the front page of the site,
http://www.nytimes.com/ ?! |
Yeah its a true article and I have been saying this a while. Just because a lot of people loose weight on Atkins short term doesn't mean you won't end up with colon cancer, heart disease, and ulcers long term.
There have been at least 100 studies showing that high fat diets cause everything from heart disease to cancer, and the typical Atkins dieter loads up with fat big time, a total vodoo diet with one nutty dead guy at the center. |
The thing is, I'm consuming the same foods as I was when I ate anything and when I was on a low fat diet. The only thing that has changed is I'm not eating rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar, and high carb bread. In fact, I'm technically eating better since I'm replacing those things with veggies now. I don't really consider it a diet, more of a lifestyle. When I got hurt the first time I couldn't exercise at all, could barely walk, and I tried to watch what I ate in a low fat way and gained a bunch of weight. This time around I'm sitting on my ass and doing it the low carb way and maintaining my weight with 50-100 carbs a day and losing with 20 carbs a day. It's a slow weight loss but slower is better anyway, no one wants a bunch of skin hanging around. People think that it's all red meat and butter, if you are doing that you are nuts. I might have a hamburger once in awhile but I mostly eat chicken. Lots of salads. You just have to be smart about it.

I really hope you guys realize the low carb diet isn't meant for the longterm. Dr. Atkins only meant for you to find your optimal low glycemic carb intake by starting from the no carb at all startpoint and raising the low glycemic carb intake from there over time.
Here's an article directly from the source. http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-62766.html In it they explain about helthy carbs you [u]should[u] eat to stay healthy. Please do yourself and your family members a favor and reading this article to fully understand Atkins and the whole premise of low carb diets. After you understand it then explain it to your loved ones. I see too many people thinking the point is to eat as few carbs as possible. As TheSaint said, if people continue misusung Atkins we will see a nation of very unhealthy colon cancer having people. :( |
It's really nothing new. Only the short-term induction period focuses on extreme low carbs. You quickly progress into eating a lot more complex carbs, and avoiding simple white ones which cause so much trouble (sugar, white flour, starchy vegies, white rice).
If anything, the release was just meant to remind people that Atkins was NEVER an all meat, cheese and eggs diet. |

You do eat healthier this way. It was just little over a year ago that they compared the Heart Foundations study comparing low fat diets to low carb diets and that the people on low carb diets (Atkins) had fewer heart attacks, less heart disease, and better cholesterol count. But even with these scientific studies, people will always find a way to say "BUT IT'S BAD FOR YOU!" |
Lazy assholes, get out and go jogging.

cutting back on meat? no way... I need the protein
|
its unhealthy to lose weight by unproporitional means.. .meaning, if you want to lose weight, your diet needs to be more balanced than just "NO CARBS" and you need to exercise sufficiently/properly.
you can end up fucking your shit up if you try to cheat ;) ahh, i can't wait till i start my training certification course so i can provide some more info about this stuff. |

How old was he and what was his cause of death again? .. he died at 72, from complications from head injury he suffered after a fall. I'll be stoked if I see 72. |
I dont know how old he was but he died of heart faliure which seems to be the objection to the diet

Unless by "heart failure" you mean it stopped working after he died :glugglug |

But I have to believe that there is a little difference between the fat in a lean steak Vs. the fat in say a box of twinkies, a tub of ice cream, or a large chocolate shake from your favorite drive through. Wtf are milkshakes from fast food joints made out of anyway? I know it's not ice cream. |

http://www.bookmagazine.com/news/apr03news.shtml "Dr. Robert Atkins died today. An April 18 accident left him comatose, after he slipped on an icy sidewalk outside his New York office. Atkins was the author of several bestselling diet books, and creator of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet. His 1972 book, Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution, defied conventional nutrition, and his 1992 book, Dr. Atkins'New Diet Revolution, renewed the diet's popularity. " |
Diet Doctor Robert Atkins Dies After Fall
NEW YORK (Reuters) - World famous diet doctor Robert Atkins, advocate of a popular but controversial high protein, low carbohydrate diet, died on Thursday, his spokesman said. Spokesman Richard Rothstein said Atkins, 72, died at 11:01 a.m. EDT in the Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, where he was admitted on April 8 after falling and hitting his head on an icy sidewalk. Atkins underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain but went into a coma and died more than a week later from complications, Rothstein said. Atkins developed the "Atkins Diet" -- now referred to as "the Atkins Nutritional Approach" -- that blames carbohydrates, a major energy source, for weight gain. The program has been criticized by the medical establishment as risking disease, but several recent studies have shown that the diet can help people lose weight without damaging their health. He first published, "Diet Revolution" in 1972, which was updated twice and hit the best-seller lists despite the criticism. His latest book, "Atkins for Life," was published this year. "The cause of death was related to head trauma from an accident that occurred while Dr. Atkins was on his way to work," Rothstein said in a statement. Atkins fell on his way to work at the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine in Manhattan during an unusual spring snowstorm that hit the New York region on April 7. In addition to his wife, Veronica, Dr. Atkins is survived by his mother, Norma Atkins. |
I did high protein low carb for years.
I went on the Suzanne Sommers diet (which is similar to Atkins) and ended up in the hospital. Too much meat. I stick to weight watchers now, even though I 'm a little carb sensitive, they now have a lower carb variation of their program. My mom did Atkins when I was a kid. She'd pee on these little ketone sticks to see if your body was in ketosis-an excellerated fat burning state. When she was in ketosis, she would smell so bad. We'd diet together and eat full slabs of colby cheese and the famous 70's diet plate of cottage cheese and a hamburger patty. omg! It's funny what comes back into vogue after so many years. I'm looking forward to the scarsdale resurgance when the Stepford Wives movie opens. It's a predictable deja vu!! |
Diets=craze created by lazy/weak minded fucks who dont want to exercise/eat right
