2 ethernet cards?
 

can i put 2 cards in 1 pc and 1 in the other, connect 2 pcs together and put the dsl into the 2nd card? and if so what type of software would i need? thanks to all that reply

if you're running winshit you should have a bridge internet options with firwalling on the NIC dsl is coming into and ip sharing ;)

how do i setup the bridge and ip sharing?

$49-79 you can get a DSL router most of which have a 4 port hub at least....

if your to cheap for that $12-15 can get you a basic hub with uplink...

setting up ICS is a pain in the ass (and if you don't have a crossover cable between the two boxes your screwed anyhow)

spend the money get the router....

id refinately recommend getting a router or switch, especiall y if you want to use the secondary machine whe the first isnt on

i have a router but it always stops working. i always have to recycle the power. now im having another problem.

on my other pc in the network options. theres no "TCP?IP" accossiated with my network card. same with netbeu and ipx or whatever. any ideas?

You need a router at least to make this work properly. Internet goes to router. Then you can go

1st
PC <---> Router <---> PC

or

2nd
Router <----> PC(has 2 network cards. becomes gateway) <----> PC


Some routers the default address is 192.168.0.1
you need to change this for it to work. Windows will want to give that address to the NIC feeding internet to the PC not connected to the router. And don't set the gateway PC as a DMZ host or the second option won't work. Theres a help section about setting up internet connection sharing in Windows.

Just use the first option and make life easier.

You should see connections in there
I have a Wireless Network Connection and a Local Area Network Connection present becuase i have a wireless card and a lan card.

Right click (im assuming youre using a LAn card) the Local Area Connection and go to properties.

You should see Listed
Client for Microsoft Networks
TCP/IP

(Netbui if you want i guess? I don't have this and i havent needed it since windows 98 to share a connection.)

If you dont see them listed click the install button find them and get them in there. This is my best guess to what your problem is, with the info you provided

and you will need to reboot

Yes, you can do that, then use Winroute or Wingate.

I just glanced over this thread but

a) You can network like this.
b) It's not hard
c) Don't need a router

Only thing is when you boot the main pc the others are offline. Plug the first pc in and get it online using settings and setting up a lan connection. Run the networking wizard and make that disk to run in the other pc's. Run it, release IP's, reboot and it should be gold. I always set this up and I could do it faster than the $120 an hour network guys trying to use 1 card and set up virtual networks.

Don't need any special software either. I had Sygate and all that b/s just gave me headaches. Hell in the Windows 98 book it shows how to network like this in fact.
