Billing issues and lost re-bills.

Although this may sounds stupid to some, I think it is a valid question. With all the late billing company issues with VISA and MasterCard the biggest problem as I see it are the re-bills which are lost. Would it not be possible for another billing company to take over the webmasters users and with that the rebills?

With our processor (Netbilling), the credit card and customer data is ours if we ever decide to leave. Not that we ever would.

Ah yes, but you need your own merchant account to take advantage of the Netbilling Visa and MasterCard services. Correct?

Alot of battles have been fought over credit databases behind the scenes in the past...
Alot.

Yes, I agree. I can get high-risk merchant accounts, so that?s not a problem at all. I am just wondering why the billing companies don?t sit down together and work out a way of importing one another?s databases. I mean in the end, I think it is all about a happy webmaster that makes the processing business successful or not.

No, you can't. Because the credit card number is for only the merchant account holder to be able to access, meaning that if you're using iBill and the third party billers and you don't have your own merchant account, you can't have the credit card rights!

The only way you can have all access to credit card information is if you have your own merchant account! Otherwise you're screwed in getting any credit card information at all!

It is a legal issue that the processor can't give out the credit card numbers to the clients because they are the only ones with the legal rights to hold that information!

But if you do get a merchant account, all the CC numbers are yours!

I am not talking about giving the webmaster access to the CC numbers. I am talking about the billing companies being able to pass re-bills and customers to ONE other billing company so that re-bills are not lost. It could actually be done by making a separate company who is responsible for the date, which would be sold to another company in case of problems with the main company. I am not sure if I am getting my idea across? hmmm.

From the people I have asked, you can't do that. There would be too many chargebacks anyway. If the customer was used to seeing ProBilling on their credit card statement and then all of a sudden saw CCBill or something else, there would be a ton of chargebacks.

The only way of doing it is to contact every customer and asking if it is ok with them. Not sure if they have to sign anything or not. This is just what I heard, so I don't know for sure.

Yes, exactly. I think the first company or companies who take on such a project would certainly move to another level. I mean, one day I am sure that will be standard.

I know what you're talking about doing! But a billing company cant give the CC numbers to the other company! It is a legal problem! They are suppose to protect that CC number from getting out and so they can't just give them to another company! If Glo-Bill gave all the CC numbers to CCBill for us, Glo-Bill management would be responsible if any of those CC numbers got out.

It is basically a legal binding thing!

Okay Jdog, I can see what you are saying.

I suggest that the example company ?BiG Billing? owns a smaller company ?SmalL Billing?. SmalL Billing owns all the CC numbers, that is all. BiG Billing uses services from SmalL Billing. BiG Billing files for bankruptcy and sells SmalL Billing to another billing company.

Would something like that be possible?

If you have enough recurring members anything is possible

Was that post to just have posted something or did you actually mean something by that?
