The following is the email

Dear Probilling Merchant,

As you well know, these have been challenging times for all online credit card processing companies. We have decided to concentrate on our rapidly growing market of alternative payment processing solutions. ACH processing is the future of online commerce and is the most viable solution for eBusiness transactions. As part of our new focus, we are offering our existing account holders a preferred rate on our ACH processing.

Effective Midnight EST Tuesday Jan 20, 2004:

SmartCheck at 7%

DirectCheck at 10.5%, with No NSF's, No reserves, No chargebacks and instant proBilling account funding

Due to the increased scrutiny by the credit card associations we feel that we can no longer offer reliable credit card processing as part of our portfolio of services. We have decided to withdraw from Visa and MasterCard high risk processing according to the following schedule:

MasterCard: Immediately

Visa: Midnight EST Tuesday Jan 20, 2004

All accounts at our acquiring banks remain open and in good standing. All proBilling account holder's FUNDS ARE COMPLETELY SECURE; weekly holdbacks and regular payouts will be dispersed as usual. Your account will remain open and accessible at www.proBilling.com. All password management functions, consumer and merchant services will be operating as normal.

This is NOT the closure of another online processor. This is a business decision made to focus on the future of online processing and we look forward to a long and prosperous business partnership with our valued merchants.

For additional information please check our proBilling Community Forum, or contact [email protected]

Regards,
proBilling Merchant Services

antigravityboy 01-16-2004 06:11 PM

Did you bother to read the email?

Bansheelinks 01-17-2004 02:49 AM

Probilling always has been a joke of a company.......look at their history folks..........should we be surprised? one webmaster described them as 3 employees in a basement in Alberta, Canada which I found to be funny.......

It was just a matter of time on this one. They are tits up, no matter how they'd like to cushion it in their e-mails.

monro 01-17-2004 03:04 AM

It's time to add a more realible payment system to our sites.
There are systems around where you can safley accept all cards and bank transfers, at no risk for your money to be frozen etc.

BrentD 01-17-2004 03:08 AM

They aren't going out of business, they are simply taking the smartest move on the web today and canning Visa and MC's stupid asses and using ACH Debit which is the future of the web. No more chargebacks woooohoooo.

Keep your eye out, more will start dropping visa/mc and going to ACH Debit now that ach debit can be done instantly through ProBilling's directcheck feature:)

Will cut down on purchase fraud quite a bit as well, I find it a very smart move indeed, way to go probilling;)

So your saying fortume 500 companies never started out of a garage or basement? Get a clue, most of your companies are ran from home or a garage, especially webmasters. I very well support anyone who can turn a basement business into a company as large as probilling, its kealous folks that like to bash.

And the Pope is only suffering from a little "tennis elbow." :)

I thought it so funny when they said "This is not another biller going out of business..." Um..I think the vast majority of webmasters would say "Oh yes it is!"

LMAO!!!!!!! Is this guy a Probilling shill or what? Tell you what, guy, either you are WITH Probilling or are the biggest idiot on this board. This is the same mentality as Hitler in his bunker refusing to admit the Russians were closing in on him before it was too late.

Maybe you should negotiate on behalf of Probilling, BrentD; after all, they may have alienated their parents and someone will need to talk to these parents. Seeing how they now have to make the move out of their basement to back home.

bopha 01-17-2004 11:32 AM

I don't recall, but doesn't stats remote use probilling to process their service?

Not sure, Bopha, although I wouldn't be using Probilling myself for anything. Why go with something as dreadful as that?

He's not talking about Probilling. He's talking about this comment.
3 employees in a basement
It doesn't take alot of people to run a internet company (billing or otherwise). Yahoo started in the garage. For all you know, CCBill has 5 employees. If some internet company has more than a dozen employees (not including models), they might be doing something wrong. Most of these muli-million dollar companies on the internet only have around 6 employees.

Your saying the amount of employees for a internet company has something to do with how big of a company it is, when it doesn't.

Probilling got what they deserved. Anyone who was willing to put their faith in these people who ran and hid from legitimate questions & issues was either desperate for a processor, cheap, or foolish, or didn't have the $$$ required to start a regional presence company and pay the VISA fees. I'm far from in favor of the ridiculous VISA mandates but they are a fact of life, and a fact that Probilling KNEW was going to bite them, and their clients, in the ass.

Probilling was smoke & mirrors, and now have been chopped down as predicted many a time.

"Deserved" and "smoke and mirrors" eh? :winkwink:

Tis obvious you have no idea what you are talking about re Probilling. It has nothing to do with some folks being "desperate for a processor" or trying to avoid the USVISA $750 fees (these are only relevant to the US or anyone who wishes to jump into that frying pan anyways)

Tho gotta agree on the "VISA mandates".. all crap!

well Webby, why not enlighten us then with your opinion on why Probilling is chopped down at the knees regarding credit card processing?
