What rock band has or had the best sounding most talented singer?

Which rock star current or past had the best voice?

Robert Plant? Freddy Mercury? Paul Mcartney? Elvis?

Yeah that guy was incredibly talented as a writer and performer.
What a terrible loss to the music world to lose him so early in his life. Love Queens music. Ironic he wrote the theme song for Highlander "who wants to live forever". I wish I had seen them in concert.

I will have to copy everyone else and say Freddie Mercury!

Meta Ridley 01-16-2004 01:12 PM

I've always liked Cobain - i guess you could classify him as one of the best sounding guys who cant sing ;)

But Freddy Mercury is pretty much untouchable - that guys voice is amazing.

:thumbsup

Shok 01-16-2004 01:13 PM

I like the crash test dummys singer cause it's unusual

For pure range of harmony and melodic talent I'd say Elton John.

For pure power and ability to nail high loud notes and still sound awesome -- Deep Purple's Ian Gillan.

others I'd rank high:

Klaus Mein -- Scorpions
Rik Emmet -- Triumph

Scorpions. Now there's a band that sounds like their albums live. :)

I saw Zepplin for their In from the Outdoors "Albumn" concert.
I'd have to admit I was totally wasted as it was the late 80's, or was it? hehe well if you can remember it you weren't there right?
Anyways, they were awesome! One of the best concerts I ever barely saw. But I do recall the incredible guitar work of Jimmy Page and the awesome range of Plants voice.

Two other great vocalists from back in the day were those two chicks from Heart.

It's all so subjective really. I saw Ozzie with Sabbath during the Black n Blue tour they did with BOC and he sounded great too.

I love Rick Emmet of Triumph but more for the great lyrics and hard pounding rock n' roll.

And the very fist concert I ever went to was Peter Frampton from the Frampton Comes Alive tour. He had a great voice too and did that cool stuff with the voice box on "do you feel like I do".

Robert Plant, David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, Vince Neil. Paul Stanley rocks, too. :) Taime Downe is awesome. Female rockers with great voices are Lee Aaron and Joan Jett.

Mark Knophler sp? Dire Straits guy

edit: also most talented tarist.

Pornwolf 01-16-2004 03:19 PM

Freddie defintiely. There's really no comparison with the current crop of bands over the last 20 years. He was amazing.

If I had to pick a current band's lead I would say Chris Martin. The rest of the guys like Vedder and Kroeger are good stylistically but they don't really sing, they yell.

sherie 01-16-2004 03:21 PM

Axl Rose
Bruce Dickenson
Rob Halford

As a singer he's not in the top 50. As a guitarist I'd put him in the top 10 most definitely.

More singers....

Roger Daltry
Steve Perry
Geddy Lee
Roger Waters
Michael Hutchins (INXS)(deceased)
Brad Delp

Brian Molko - Placebo
Robert Smith - the cure
David Gahan - Depeche Mode
Feargal Sharkey - Undertones
Paul Weller - The Jam (solo as well but you asked for in a band)

you see how my tastes run ;)

hottoddy 01-16-2004 03:46 PM

Definitely Justin Hawkins from The Darkness.
