Sales Reps Do You Need Them?

The places you use and promote to make the most money do they have sales reps that you use or do you do it all on your own. Isn't a much better more organized site more helpful to you? Or do you find that the sales reps are a big help to you? Personally I pretty much avoid them at all costs most of the time, although there are a few that are really on top of things and can be a big help but they are in the minority.

Steve 01-15-2004 02:41 PM

Not only do I not contact them, but I find them irritating when they contact me.

I realise that their job is to generate traffic/sales, though, and for this reason I always try to be cordial. But guess what? If I am not sending traffic, I either dont like the results, or I haven't gotten to you just yet. Dunning me for hits is not a good way to get me to put up your links.

Sales reps make companies look stupid online.
Thats why ya see em jump from company to company.

Sales rep is sort of an Irony.
If they were any good at acual sales they wouldnt need to be a sales "Rep" dont ya think?

Digipimp 01-15-2004 02:45 PM

I wish with the money they spend on sales reps alot of these places would fix up their tours, add more content, fill out the member area and build a better more helpful affiliate site.

It's also fun to see big quality programs with 2 sales reps and smaller shitty spammers with 8 hot girls probably all getting commission type pay and making almost nothing.

WiredGuy 01-15-2004 02:54 PM

Not usually, but when I do, I usually need a technical answer, not a sales answer. I'm already sold on the sponsors I use, I need techie questions answered if anything at this point.

I LoVe Reps! I bend over backward for my webmasters, and they know I will do whatever to ensure that they get what they need to make money. Even if it means buggin the shit outta Lensman...

Oracle Porn 01-15-2004 03:03 PM

I use some of them. Some of them are so lazy its not even funny.

dantheman 01-15-2004 03:17 PM

I'm a rep and proud of it. Wanta buy something? :Graucho

okny 01-15-2004 03:23 PM

I think if you run an affiliate program you need sales rep's because there is only so much one person can do, plus webmasters always need something and in this case the sales rep can provide them with what they need.

Raven 01-15-2004 03:29 PM

I think much depends on the rep....

There was one, whose name I won't mention and is long gone..who never looked at my sites, wouldn't have known how to build or market a site if he fell over it...and all he wanted was my traffic....period...

I've had several reps who really looked out for me and answered my questions....

I just wish these companies who have them would hire people who know webmastering to some degree....know marketing and sales....and not be so drunk or drugged in Vegas or elsewhere that they can't remember their own name, let alone mine.'

There are uses for sales reps..or marketing reps....when a sponsor goes out of their way to pay for advertising, their reps should take the effort to post on the board and contribute...these newbies and even veterans do take note of those who are available and those who are only interested in partying in Vegas.....

wtfent 01-15-2004 03:38 PM

If you work smartly you really dont need much help to run an online business until your doing in excess of 10,000 a month.

wtfent 01-15-2004 03:40 PM

On my worse day I will get 10,000 visits and I did that all on my own without the help of any team and I did not even have a computer 2 years ago, so If I could do it so can you.

Chris E 01-15-2004 04:48 PM

They totally have their use!

Wiseman 01-15-2004 04:59 PM

I am the only Rep we have over at Quickbuck and Conversioncash..
I mean Hooper helps people as well....
But we are both workaholics so we arent to hard to get ahold of...
But Hooper is an asshole so noone really likes tyo work with him so thats where I come in!!

But someone up above said that if a Sales rep was truly a good sales rep they wouldnt have to be a sales rep....
He is fucking IGNORANT!! Just because you are one hell of a rep doesnt mean you know or understand what all it takes to run a program...
I handle 90% of the People to people sides of the buisness and Hooper handles all the technical side of shit..
If I had to fucking handle the programers and handle technical problems at 3 in the morning when shit went wrong our programs would not last!!!
And if Hooper was the one to deal with all the clients when they had a problem our programs also would not last!!
No one would use us!! You can only take someone with shitty people skills for so long.... =)

XxXotic 01-15-2004 05:01 PM

sales reps are definitely needed, but it seems that most of them in this business really dont know what theyre doing. Doesn't apply to all, but most.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-15-2004 05:15 PM

"He is fucking IGNORANT!! Just because you are one hell of a rep doesnt mean you know or understand what all it takes to run a program... "

You call me ignorant then back peddle with a follow up statement that that is contradictory?
If one does not know exactly what they are selling they ought not sell it!

I run circles around sales rep's. Maybe some are good but MOST got no clue and confuse it with marketing while others believe they are an art director...

Please save it bro, if you dont know what works in the field and exactly why it works then ya got no business selling it.

Just my opinion, I aint saying you suck... I didint call you ignorant...
But damn you just fucked your self calling a potential client Ignorant then looking stupid with a excuse that is contradictory for the reasons why!

WTF...

Like I said...

Most sales reps make companies look stupid.

myjah 01-15-2004 05:17 PM

had several unpleasant experiences with them. at the same time, i think most companies can't do without them

A lot more then you can do by your self I can pretty much guarentee you that...

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-15-2004 05:27 PM

Don't sweat it bro, your one of the good guys.
Hooper known me for a very long time he has my respect as a pro:)

I just given ya some love.
BTW...
Ya guys kill out that Chrismas banner yet?

Sly_RJ 01-15-2004 05:34 PM

No. I'm worthless. I should be fired now.

Sales reps do a lot more than you guys think. It's not all about sitting in front of the computer answering a question here and there. Preparing content, ordering banners, answering email, building long term relationships, building sites, scouting out domains and traffic, taking care of technical issues, turning technical answers into common understandable answers... need I go on?

If you personally have no use for a sales rep, fine. Don't use them. I'm willing to bet the other people who hit me up on a daily basis feel differently.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-15-2004 05:39 PM

"Preparing content, ordering banners, answering email, building long term relationships, building sites, scouting out domains and traffic, taking care of technical issues, turning technical answers into common understandable answers... need I go on?"

Thats not sales with exception of "building long term relationships" and possibly "technical answers into common understandable answers" which is summarised with the term "Spin" control.

Your describing being a webmaster there bro, big big difference.

Most of the sales reps I know do a good chunk of the above. Cutting checks, dealing with payments, etc.

No they don't. That's different, it's like I said it's funny how some big companies have like 2 reps and then the small shitty spammer companies have 10 who do nothing but suck dicks for traffic.

Everyone knows which one of those they fall in.

Not every company is like Orgasm Cash.

Way too many of them are though unfortunately. But there are some quality people out there who are not just an average sales rep, but essentially know the biz, are webmasters themselves and rep for companies and do more.

Sly_RJ 01-15-2004 05:49 PM

Apparently I must work with the better companies. I know very few of the "cock sucking" companies. They don't impress me, never have. If I want my dick sucked I'll get a hooker.

Phoenix 01-15-2004 05:55 PM

yeah, i dont think you are fully appreciating what a "sales rep" brings to an organization. Of course they are needed, I work with many of my webmasters offering tips and help where i can. That is a valuable service which ,when used effectively will almost always result in a percentage increase in the webmasters earnings.

Some reps may come off the wrong way at times, but for the most part their dedication to one company is highly valuable.

It is hard to quantify the number of ways a company benefits from a professional helping to market their product.
