Hard drive question IDE/SATA

If I'm buring a new system and this is how the hard drive is describe:

40GB IDE
Not Compatible with SATA 2nd Hard Drive

whats the implication of it not being compatibly with SATA 2nd Hard Drive?

Serial ATA drives have a diff connector, not a IDE connector. Maybe that is what they mean? You can't hook up a Serial ATA drive to be slave on a IDE cable maybe?
