My attorney charges me

...$125.00 per hour and this is charged even if we speak on the phone for 2 minutes. A few days ago I called his secretary and gave her some information. She called back and said my attorney needed to see me concerning the information that I had provided. I met with him today...and after going back and forth for about five minutes...he said that I had him confused...and I told him that he had me confused. Well over the next minutes we settled the confusion...and he turned out that his secretary had given him mis-information...and he did not need to see me after all. By then we had been talking probably around 15 minutes or so...so I said well...I guess you will not be charging me today for your time...since it is your secretary that caused the confusion and was the cause of you telling me to come in. He said with a straight face...of course your will be charged. I said with a straight face...you are of course joking. He had a quite moment then laughed and said "gotcha"...but you know I think he was serious in his original statment...about charging me.

Fucking attorneys usually give no "quarter". Maybe I should have presented him a bill for wasting my time because of his secretary's mistake.

125 an hour sounds like you got a shitty lawyer of a cousin that works cheap.

I just sold my cabel and wiring biz and the fees were over 10k and those fuckers probably worked a few hours at most.

But it works cause i get paid on my clients for 5 years:Graucho

That's a law clerk fee.

Most top lawyers are $295 to $495 an hour now.

He is just doing some probate work for me and this only requires someone that possesses a license to practice law...and no he is not my cousin...picked him out of the yellow pages...as I just recently relocated to this area.

I have done work for several lawyers, and probate has to be my least favorite field, hands down. Could not pay me enough to make that my primary field.

I think probate law varies from state to state...but in this state if the estate is less than $50,000 you can file a small estate claim and it is my understanding that probate takes only 30 days. If the estate is above $50,000...probate can take months. My attorney told me that in my case to expect a minimum of seven months. One has to post an ad in the paper for three weeks to allow creditors to come foward...and then allow four months for said creditors to file a claim against the estate...and the other two or three months is waiting on court action.

I really do not understand why the amount of the estate should have anything to do with the time involved in the probate.

I had some legal problems not to long ago and spent a HUGE sum on a defense attorney..

In Hindsight it would have been much better just to plead guilty right off the bat not only to save the 2 years of stress of arrignmnets, meetings, and court hearings but to save the tens of thousands I spent on an old washed up legend of an attorney who lost my defense trial for me anyhow and in the end got me the same exact sentence I would have gotten if I handnt hired him at all 2 years before the trial date...

I should have bit the bullet and just plead guilty on the arrignment day or waht ever the fuck day that is you first go to court..

Unreal..

I hope to never deal with a defense attorney again..
They are the scum of scum.
