WinXP SP2 to integrate popup blocker plus "Window Restrictions"

Quote:

By default this feature blocks all pop-ups from any site when activated. However you can choose sites whose pop-ups you wish not to block (why on God's green earth I don't know). Adding sites is simple and does not induce brain damage. You also have the option of having a sound play when a pop-up occurs, even if you have chosen to block it.

And here's something of great interest that I'm sure many of you will be glad to hear about: Internet Explorer Window Restrictions. Basically this blocks most websites that use code to resize your Internet Explorer window. Over the years I have found this to be a nescience.

What does Window Restrictions do?
Internet Explorer provides the capability for scripts to programmatically open additional windows of various types, and to resize and reposition existing windows. The Window Restrictions security feature, formerly called UI Spoofing Mitigation, restricts two types of script-initiated windows that have been used by malicious persons to deceive users: popup windows (which do not have components such as the address bar, title bar, status bar, and toolbars) and windows that include the title bar and status bar.

Why? Bill isn't the richest guy in the world for being stupid...he never did anything original and look where it got him.

DTK 01-14-2004 11:53 AM

If I'm understanding this correctly, it sounds like bad news for the exit brokers of the world.

Platinum Dave 01-14-2004 12:38 PM

Platinum Bucks already has a no pop up feature for all our sites.

We've been expecting this for quite sometime.

of course, and I am surprised that there is no more responses to these news, since it'll hit many program's wallets.

12clicks 01-14-2004 01:34 PM

No, what you kids don't understand is that it will hit webmasters in the wallet not program operators.

But you keep on cheering.

dopes.

doesn't one thing follow the other? Programs will make less, and so will affiliates.

why would programs make less when you can simply pass the loss onto the affiliates?

They already do it in some cases (for console-free sites that is).

I don't know what the ratios for exit/console sales are. Enlighten me.

But you're right, the affliate will certainly suffer more. :glugglug

I for one feel that this is just another example of how Microsoft just sucks enornmous amounts of ass in every way.

Gateway69 01-14-2004 02:47 PM

this is old info. but yea, say goodby to alot of your pop up crap money.. once the majority of people update u guys will have to find alternative methods.. thank god for this, i hate pop up hell.. i use google tool bar for now.. but with sp 2 it should be nice..

Rorschach 01-14-2004 02:53 PM

A good deal of the modern affiliate system has been built by pop ups... it just amazes me that people don't realise that part of the reason PPS programs can afford to pay you so much is through exit trading.

Nima 01-14-2004 03:03 PM

this fucking sucks!
I don't abuse popups but it will really hit me hard :321GFY

The Truth Hurts 01-14-2004 04:01 PM

Don't get your collective panties in a bunch.

Let's not forget that this is IE.

There will be a workaround/hack/exploit 5 minutes after it's released.

funkmaster 01-14-2004 07:46 PM

... I still can't uderstand people that actually think this is good news. I mean what's the point of calling this good news? if I had taken away 20% of my income I wouldn't call it GOOD NEWS, would I ???

Are you a hypocrite if you broker popup exit traffic & run popup blockers yourself?

Antxx 01-14-2004 08:57 PM

will it block Bill sperm's count ?

bigdog 01-15-2004 08:16 AM

You know this thread is funny, you would think you would see more views and responses but no. A thread where a girl shows off her tits gets more attention. I guess webmasters are happy with making less

That's the way GFY goes. If there's actually something that will soon have a big influence on the biz, people don't pay attention to it. :(

umm that's what makes them a smart company. nothing wrong with improving on someone elses idea. it's done everyday on the net with websites.

NOT! it'll work the same way google toolbar and about 20 other popup blockers work. the only difference is it'll come with every new computer and takes one click to turn on.

I don't use pop ups anywhere, and i still make money. I think it will make the sponsors rethink their strategies concerning pop ups...I wouldn't be surprised tho, if this will push the flashcash overlay in the porn industry.

edit: LOL! I said "flashcash" ! It's simply Flash . I am too much in porn...

realy sad though

RSanders 01-15-2004 10:04 AM

I've been blocking popups with mozilla.

As it becomes more main stream, people will combat it with new and creative ways to get attention.

Just like in software hacks/security
and games, cheat/anti-cheat

Both sides will tug of war. Once popups are blocked as a norm, we will see something new.

Roger 01-15-2004 10:08 AM

It's because of those popup hell idiots. I mean one popup after you leave a site I can live with that but the amount of popups that we're getting nowadays is huge and forces even the most patient person to use a popup blocker.

TheEnforcer 01-15-2004 11:05 AM

darwin will rear his head on this one! :winkwink:
