FYI I'm gone but not completely

If I'm slow in getting back to anyone or getting updates done in the next few days, it's due to the fact that my 16 year old is in ICU with respiratory problems relating to a bad case of Mono (I'll kill the girl who gave it to him later) along with a sinus infection and more.

I'll be in and out of contact over the next few days.

KC 01-13-2004 04:22 AM

Damn PK,

That's scary. I'm sorry to hear that... Make sure your boy gets better!

SomeCreep 01-13-2004 04:24 AM

Hope he gets well soon :thumbsup

PersianKitty 01-13-2004 04:25 AM

Thanks, KC.

You've seen the kid.. he's 16, wears a size 16 shoe, is about 6'1" and weights about 260. He's so pissed cause they moved him from a regular hospital to a 'Childrens" hospital because they wanted him in the ICU.

Krille 01-13-2004 04:26 AM

at least there is something positive:

Can I get Mono again?
No, you will be immune for life.

Children's hospitals have Xbox and Playstations :thumbsup

MicroChick 01-13-2004 04:27 AM

PK, I had mono in college. It drains you. My niece has it now. It's difficult to keep a teenager quiet, and you do need lots of rest. Best of health to your son.

Not in the sense of the word you mean. It's a virus that is usually transmitted through saliva. When I was young they called it the kissing disease. You can also get it from sharing utensils, toothbrushes, etc with an infected person.

Digipimp 01-13-2004 04:34 AM

Wow my best goes out to you PK, hope he gets over this soon and is back up and kicking ass again, I figure cause if' he's a big boy like that I bet he kicks a little ass, I know I did when I was his age. Keep him smiling and you'll both pull through it fast.

:)

reynold 01-13-2004 04:34 AM

Best wishes to you and your family during these trying times.

Krille 01-13-2004 04:34 AM

PK, you have my thoughts and hopes for the fast recovery of your son. Take care of yourself, too! *HUGS*

Carrie 01-13-2004 07:37 AM

One of the joys of working from home - you can be there for your kids when they need you.

Here's hoping he gets better as soon as possible and that the poor guy doesn't go crazy with the forced rest. :) Make sure YOU get enough rest too and take care of yourself, if your cup is drained then you can't help fill his!

sherie 01-13-2004 07:46 AM

Best wishes PK.

Peter Romero 01-13-2004 07:55 AM

Get well soon. Send my condolences.

Sorry to hear about that. Hope he gets better soon.

Buff

PersianKitty 01-13-2004 06:33 PM

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts. He's doing better today. He's finally able to swallow some water and clear liquids by mouth. He's getting more oxygen in his system today also. I'm hoping they'll let him come home in 24 to 48 hours. They claim once the steriods kick in and start reducing the swelling, it's downhill from there.

PattyeCake* 01-13-2004 06:51 PM

Pk, Nothing but good thoughts and wishes being sent out for your son and you as well....

hope he is home and well, very SOON!

downhill ? I hope you mean that in a good way =)

my brother had mono one time, that he fought for a month. it's a nasty infection. Some Hospitals suck - but if it's Children's in seattle then it's worth sticking around and making sure his immune system is up for it.

well, i don't really know you, but you're a local and a legend... so I hope he feels even better tomorrow

jas0n 01-13-2004 07:01 PM

Like Brett said you are a local legend, so I hope your son gets over his illness soon.... Size 16 shoe? That's nuckin futs. Let us Seattle folk know if we can do anything for ya.

PurrrsianPussyKat 01-13-2004 07:03 PM

Yeah I meant downhill as in easy going....sorry..a bit on the tired side.

He is at Children's only because Mary Bridge in Tacoma was full and my local hospital thought he would need to be in the ICU.

Got to meet a doc today that seems to be really good and my be able to help in with his gastro-related problems. He also got a visit from 3 Seattle Thunderbirds today along with their mascot. He's not a big hockey fan tho...so they talked football.
