why dont more gun owners use silencers?
 

like assassins... or just killers in general. you would think if they truly wanted to get away with it, they'd be a bit more inconspicuous. nothing like a loud gunshot to give yourself away.

is it because they're illegal? not like killing someone else isn't...

too bulky? i'm sure if you're gonna spring for one you could shell out the money for a custom holster to fit it.

does it boil down to taking the time to screw one on vs. a heat of the moment type situation?

or are people just stupid and want to be caught?

personally when i kill someone, the explosion relaxes me while I'm wiping the blood off my hands

If you could get them around here at all, the Indians would be selling them on the local reserves, since they sell illegal handguns like they are going out of style, but I've never heard tell of anyone getting their hands on a silencer.

I know the local hillbilly deer poachers would love to get them for their rifles when they go out spotlighting.

I've never even seen one except on TV, magazines, etc.

In order for a silencer to be effective, you also have to use a low powered cartridge. What good is a silencer when the projectile is breaking the sound barrier?

A lower powered cartridge has less range and penetrating power also, making a silenced rifle pretty much ineffective.

Also most automatics release a great deal of sound when the recoil operates the action, alot of sound comes out of the breach during this process.

Dont watch TV and think that silencers are so simple :)

a .50 cal pistol round is a slow velocity bullet and could do some serious damage (close range of course) but i dont think a silencer is gonna help much. Plus they are illegal which was already brought up

yeah i was watching "tears of the sun" last nite and the everyone had silencers, hence the question.

thought as much about the killing power of a gun with a silencer...

if you're gonna go to jail for murder if they find your gun, i'm not sure why a few extra years really matters. i think i'd try to be a little more discreet and not draw all that attention to myself
