Ever used Flash in TGP galleries?
 

Has anyone ever used Flash in TGP galleries? How were your conversion rates compared to just ordinary TGP galleries with flat images?

why would you want to?

Because Flash is catchy, and flashy. It would surely catch the surfer's attention instead of just the same old, same old.

Unfortunately a lot of people who surf galleries aren't flash-capable.. You would be losing a huge audience if you did so. Your perrogative though, not sure if it would even get listed.

I did, only not with TGP galleries (scripts simply bounce the gallery) but link sites. Good results, it's great if you've a big TGP and the galleries are yours :winkwink: Don't pay much attention to the ones that never tried but are against it just in case, try it by yourself and make your mind by yourself to see if it works for you or not :)

I put a flash banner once at the bottom of one of my tgp and it brough my prod down instantly.

Why would it bring down your production environment? Assuming you chose Flash because you banners somewhat lend themselves to being described in vectors, Flash should often times produce a smaller file than GIF or JPEG.

Given the number of surfers who support Flash, I think Flash done correctly might really add to the user experience. The question is: will the affect on my conversion ratio make up for the 2% of traffic I excluded?

Of course this is coming from a Linux user who hates Flash and has had no problems with the "Farting banner" on GFY because he has not nor will he install the Flash plugin.

dont ad flash unless your adding a flash banner to the page. make it simple thumbs around half page ads on a crappy design works for me.

bullshit. anyone that has installed ie or netscape in the past 3 years can see the sort of flash people use for advertising.. it's only particularly complicated scripting or people that don't know any better that export to vesion 5 or 6 (for reaching as many people as possible that is not program sites and the like)

I did a flash layer ad for Unreal Tournament that got a 32% CTR on a game site. I'll chuck a FLA on a TGP page and see how it goes.

The biggest reason not to use flash would be 95% of TGP's don't allow activex. And thats about it.

By a flash layer ad, do you mean a floating ad?

Even GFY banned flash in the sig files.. I'd never use them, the scripts won't approve them anyway - assuming you want to add it a tgp gallery you'd submit.

TGPs will definitely decline flash movies!

The reason why is because Flash is a resource hog, and if multiple users had Flash in their sigs, then we'd have a hundred people bitching about Flash in the sigs-- Just like the farting banner.

yes i mean floating ads - and no thats not the reason flash was banned here... where were you for your 5000 posts?? it was because of a security exploit that smokey pointed out that got them all banned - heaps of people used flash sigs here and there was never a resource issue - we're not a flash users board with sigs full of advanced actionscript burning CPU's it was just a bunch of 120x60 buttons with simple tweening.

I'd shy away from it. Not only because of instant declined, but because not every surfer is flash enabled.

i can handle only reaching 96% of people if the ctr is over .04% higher

yep, thats about it, I plan on chucking a few flash layer ads on my own galleries on my own tgp, thats about as much as you can do unless you know the person that runs the tgp really well.
