The largest pot bust in Canadian history. Authorities found over 30,000 marijuana plants worth about $30 million at the former Molson Brewery plant in Barrie after a raid this weekend. Nine men have been detained, but more arrests are likely.

Much of the 60,000 square feet of the sprawling closed-down factory was turned over to cultivating the cannabis. And those weeding the weed had created a virtual factory outlet for their cash crop.

The took over a molsons brewery building and filled it with pot plants.

Nope, growing is not legal, even possesion isnt legal at the moment. It was in the 'gray area' last summer, police werent pressing charges, now they are again though.

Its legal if you got 14g or under

If you got a plantation or sell it it's illegal

Cultivating is not legal here. Nor is smoking pot. They were going to decriminalize it, but I think that got slammed as well...not sure where we stand now with that issue.

60k sq. feet of hydro? I'd say that's more than $30mil a year.

I don't understand how any government can make a plant illegal. So, they would rather have the Molson plant cranking out beer that causes drunk driving accidents constantly instead of a plant that mellows out regular folks and hooligans too? It just doesn't make sense.

In this area they regularily make busts in the $5-10 mil range...

A couple of years ago 3 different farms out in the suburbs were busted in 1 week, totalling $22 mil worth.
