Has anyone had a full body CT or MRI Scan?
Thinking about getting one of those, but its kind of scary to think what might be in your body when they can see every single thing and in 3D.
The doctor who was pitching me on it said about 50% of the people find nothing wrong, about 40% find at least one thing to be concerned about, 5% find something requiring immediate attention, and about 1% find shit so nasty they have them admitted to a hospital the same day, usually severly blocked arteries or huge tumors. She said one lady came in, said she was in perfect health and didn't expect to find anything wrong, had a CT Scan done and it showed she had brain cancer at such a severe stage they wouldn't let her leave and rushed her to the hospital on the spot. Fucking frightening. |
I don't want anything to do with that shit, I just want to die without knowing about it. Hell I don't know. I got a scan of my head once and I didn't want to do that but I did it and luckily nothing to be found not even a brain.

exactly my feelings. rather die not knowing or knowing for as little time as possible.
gonna tell you something about cancer, early detection is many cancers is not going to save your life - so here's the dilemma - u go through one of these scans - they catch a cancer early - you enter the hell of being a cancer patient, it lasts five years, the stress, intermittent treatments - u die 5 years later. if u don't have the scan - u find out you have the cancer 4 years later - and have one year of grief. the sensible approach is to get the scan because there are many cancers and heart problems that if caught early can really save your life and buy you 40 years of life. many people aren't sensible about health issues, nobody would smoke, be overweight or drink too much if they were. |
I disagree - early detection can sometimes totally get rid of the cancer, whereas just leaving it is certain death. Having watched several people die slow and painful deaths from not catching it early I would definitely want to know and do something about it.... not to say that I would rush into anything or not get a second opinion though.

I had one when I was about 7 cause I get bad migranes. Docs tought I might have had a tumor in my brain. All went well found nothing, but I still get the migranes.. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I had an MRI done about 15 years ago, but they had something specific they were looking for . . . . I slept through it

what i'm saying is that in other cases a perfectly happy person can get an early diagnosis of an illness and in the end the only thing accomplished is that person was aware he was sick for a longer period of time. 'ignorance is bliss'. |
I had a lower body CT scan when I had a painful spot under my navel. They warned me that it was going to feel warm down below like I'd wet my pants. Boy, they weren't joking. That felt WEIRD!
They found an umbilical hernia and an ovarian cyst that has been there for 2+ years but I haven't been able to get anything done about either. I've also had several abnormal PAP tests, including one that was "moderately dysplastic" which the nurse said was one step before cancer but they refused to see me for the biopsy on a "bill me" basis and I couldn't afford to get anything done. Now I don't have time to go. :( Hope everything is okay with you. |
My ex-father-in-law seemed to be in perfect health but starting having some slight abdominal pains recently. A CT scan uncovered inoperable pancreatic cancer which preventative CT scans may have revealed earlier.
In light of this situation, I would certainly now recommend preventative CT scans to anyone. |
whoops Mutt didn't read your post properly.

I'm sure insurance will not pay for it if it is done without being ordered by a doctor for a specific reason. Do you rich folks even have medical insurance? |

unfortunately pancreatic cancer has one of the bleakest prognosises of any disease - i don't think anybody other than a freaky spontaneous remission survives long with it. my uncle Bob died of it about 15 years ago, was 62. I remember at the time they did offer him an operation that had a success rate of 2%. progress in cancer treatment is so slow it's maddening. you see how fast other technologies have grown and with cancer it's like molasses. Certain cancers have had nice improvements but for many of the biggest killers - next to nothing in over 50 years of science. |
i think those scans cause cancer.
think about it. |

If your going to get it done check out
www.bumrungrad.com I had it done then for about $400 They put you in a long tube that's really borning and you can't moved while the machine makes hell of a noise. Worth it tho. |
damn now im worried and want to get one done myself
|
Your mind controls reality.
You don't have to believe that, and if you don't, its not true. Think about that. :2 cents: |
You would have to knock me out to be in there that long. I've had severl MRI's done and they had to give me valuum and that still didn't help. I'm extremely claustrophobic and I wig out when I get halfway in.

I've had 18 CT scans and 6 MRI's in the last 8 years
I got cancer when I was 23. 1 Year of Chemo and then 6 months of Radiation They Said I would NEVER have kids, let alone live past 25. 8 Years later, my wife is pregnant with our 2nd child. Here is the biggest thing I have learned over the past 8 years. DOCTORS ARE WRONG. The 1st doctor was treating me for 3 months for a sever case of the flu,,,when I had cancer all along. Needless to say,,in that time the cancer had spread from the base of my brain down into my chest. Whould you rather die not knowing or go down fighting?:ak47: |
