What do you think of this 'work of art'?
Some dude is designing model comp cards and he asked for an opinion on another forum.
Everyone kissed ass and told him it was nice. When I told him the font choice sucked ass, he got pissed off at me. So I want to show him what opinions are like when they don't come from asskissers. Post your opinion on this model comp card and don't be afraid to be rip-roaringly honest. http://www.baldybean.com/graphics/CompCard1.gif (comments on the layout, not the 'model' choice) |
the card sucks ass.
you suck ass. you guys might have just misunderstood each other. |
The card does indeed suck ass, and not just because of the font choice :2 cents:
|
yea that shit is fucking terrible
i wouldnt give that card to my worst enemy |
* The large photo on the right is too washed out looking, needs a contrast adjustment
* The font in the center is ugly and doesn't fit the image (whatever that might be) of the model * The layout shouldn't have an outward facing picture on the edge (the line drawing), it fucks up any kind of flow |

Im far from a designer but i can make a better looking card in 4 and a half mins.
|
That's fucking horrible. I could make something better in a fucking minute.
|
Pretty bad. Not horrendous, but it looks really, really amateur. You're right, the font is a bad choice.
How long has he been "designing", 6 days? Back to the drawing board. |

Notice how the nicest comment here is "Pretty bad. Not horrendous, but it looks really, really amateur." |

I agree that its definitely not the greatest design in the world, which is why I gave him the advice I thought he needs.... I guess its all a matter of perspective though. Who's really going to listen to what 99% of people here have to say? |
really terrible but practice makes perfect.
|
That looks like hell. Looks like something out of a crappy 80s movie.

Model wannabe's put too much effort into comp cards and portfolios..
As for this particular card.. why put an artist's conception of her on a comp card? It reflects nothing within her realm.. Talk to Elite or Ford modeling.. They need no comp cards or portfilios.. Send them a 3/4 polaroid shot with physical stats and it's all they need.. This portfolio/comp card stuff is for the profit of photographers.. If an agency can't see potential in a basic shot, then they need to leave the biz.. |
let me take a sip of my morning Hatorade and get in on this action...*glug glug*
ok. wow. what a fucking worthless piece of shit. the font's suck, the layout sucks, even the fat ugly bitch in the picture sucks. *burp* |
:2 cents: = :BangBang:
|
I was just wondering to myself "are we all looking at the same card"?
This design is fabulous. Better than some of the work any of you "web graphic designers" could produce in yer whole miserable fucking lives. |

I don't do public critiques very often, but something about the model's looks struck me (that is NOT evident in the photographs), so I'll offer some constructive criticism.
First off, she has a pretty face that the photography isn't taking advantage of at all. I'm personally not into BBW women, but she does have a face that could be photographed to be pretty (not hot, but pretty). Those pictures don't compliment her features at all. The big one has a southern 80's hairdo and the lighting doesn't accent her positive facial features at all. It looks like a 1985 Texas highschool yearbook photo, where the lighting is the same for everyone. The middle picture is a snapshot taken from an unflattering angle. The drawing doesn't belong in a comp card. And the lower right picture is another snapshot, but at least that angle compliments her face, even though the lighting leaves much to be desired (under her eyes, especially). I would completely reshoot her and use the new photographs (different costumes/bg's/angles). She should get a pro to do her hair (STRAIGHT! That curly, blown look doesn't work for her), a make-up artist to do her face (one who knows how to do make-up for studio work), and a photographer who knows how to light models and can see angles that bring out the positive features in any model. As to the layout, I'd use a font color that had some earth tones in it (to compliment her brown hair), and a font that is a little more classy/feminine. As it is now, the font looks like an 80's video game font. The placement of the pictures isn't that bad... that's really a matter of taste and direction. That black box draws too much attention to itself; that's where my eyes were drawn to, and that's NOT where they should have been drawn to at first. Anyhow, I hope she gets to read this; she won't be a supermodel, but she does have a pretty face to work with :thumbsup |

I recognize the photo style on the left. It's from a place called Glamour Photo. I had a set done there when I was 19. They run people through assembly-line style, tease your hair to mars, slip some fabric on you and tuck it in so it looks like the top of an expensive dress, and then use a heavy gaussian blur filter on every photo they take.
You can still find these places in a lot of malls all across the country, or shops like them. *Every* person who buys a set of pictures there thinks they have the potential to be a model. The comp card sucks beyond belief. There's not even creativity with the edges of the photos - they're just pasted onto a white rectangle. The font is horrible and red????? Why the hell would you make it red?? The line art has no business being there, this is to show off photos of her, not an "artist's rendition" of her. The black box not only draws the eyes too soon and stands out like a sore thumb, it's blurry. Baal is right. If this girl is serious about getting a modeling job, she needs to ditch the personal pictures, get rid of the Glamour Photo shot, hire a real photographer to take some good pictures of her and then hire a REAL designer to make her comp card. No one is going to hire her with that $10 comp card. This was done in Paint Shop Pro, no doubt about it. By someone who doesn't have a clue how to use the program, no less. Edit: Well shit, no wonder the pics are so awful. Probably came off of one of those $5 stock photography CDs you get at the MarketPro computer shows. |
lol, a few lines in this thread have made me laugh out loud.
I agree the design is pretty sucky, I don't do much of any real design work and I could make something at least that good in a couple of minutes. Also you're right the font and font color are no good. |
File Not Found :(
somebody post it here. what forum was this on? |
