A question about NTSC to PAL.
Yo folks.
Here is the question. I am ordering content from a guy in the states (the pople in the states have NTSC standard) And im in europe meaning I got PAL standard. The movies will be delivered on MINIDV tapes. Now is it possible to run these in a PAL DV camera and convert them on the computer? Or how do you solve this? Do you have to buy some kind of device? |
Most PAL minidv decks will play NTSC. Many cameras support NTSC playback too.
If necessary rent a semi pro MiniDV deck and dump the tapes to PAL |
Good video editing packages will let you import and convert formats too. I use Final Cut for Mac but I don't see why PC software wont let you do this too.
|
Really?
Hmm I got a jvc GR-DVX77E But have not been able to find out if it do play NTCS |
You should find many firms that will convert cheaply.
Buy a DV mag and look in the back at the adverts. The cheaper DV cams may not be able to play both formots, but the better ones should. You may find the chap you is sending you the DV tapes could convert for you if you ask him. |
It depends on what you are using to feed the data into the computer. Most domestic stuff is going to give very bad quality.
Conversion at the top end is expensive, as was said try looking in some magazines. |
If your DV cam has a DV in, you could rent or borrow a DV cam that will play both formats, copy the tapes from one machine to the other - or direct to your pc.
You may find some camera shops will also do this. Or you could just buy a new DV camera. I have two low cost JVC's and I think they will only play PAL (but to be honest, I have never checked), but I think my new Sony PD170 should (cost enough). |

Premeire 6.5 will allow you to capture the mini-dv tapes into Microsoft PAL format. Before capturing, Open Premiere and then select Project>>Project Settings>>Video. You will then see the setting for Microsoft PAL
Best of luck.. Leave your ICQ if you have any ?'s |

A guy at the local store here converts PAL to NTSC for like $10.
Shouldn't be hard to find someone to do the same except NTSC to PAL where you live |
Yeah I know but itīs alot of extra work.
Might be more easy to try and get em as pal directly from the content guy. I have to look into this but sure is a bitch! Man why cant US follow all the other standards! :) |
Get yourself a camera that plays the NTSC tape.
For very good quality, use a stand alone converter such as the TR-1000 Pro from Tenlab ( about 1600.00 $ US) . The unit converts from all to all formats, with TBC , gen lock and for adjustment color bar generator. Stay away from the $10.00 services. They mostlu use the Samsung video player with built in converter, but the quality is very low. :2 cents: |
Yeah dont want bad quality because we will also sell this on dvds.

otherwise, ask them to send you an ntsc cam (pay them for the cam, have them unpackage it, get a small one, have 'em bubblewrap it and send it as a gift DHL or FEDEX) with the tapes, just be careful with customs (dont know where you are) and be careful how cheap you go on the cam, dont want it eating your tapes. and make sure the cam has the outputs you need for capture ... |
