If you could get 10% return without doing any work, everyone would be doing it, sadly.

Seriously if you have a good idea, skills, investment capital and are prepared to work very hard $600k a year is not unreachable. The problem is he probably wants it for what he is doinfg now and if that were possible a milkshake would be costing $1,000 :1orglaugh

username 01-09-2004 11:57 PM

why, don't you know money grows on trees.... duh.

Sloane 01-10-2004 12:57 AM

if you look around you can make 10% yeild on commercial property, plus capital growth...low risk and no work if you use a property manager.

Real Estate in good areas. Especially triple net commercial properties.

Mr. Marks 01-10-2004 01:28 AM

if you have money try to invest it in a good business

reynold 01-10-2004 03:46 AM

You can. Work hard, take risks, research, and keep pushing!

Type-ins. I was thinking a guy could do 100% a year buying good type-ins.
Otherwsie real estate is doing 10% right now but not much else is. Some utility stocks look ok on a yield basis.

LOL.. nah im seriously happy if i have $200 left over after bills =P

mrbling 01-10-2004 06:59 AM

there are people who dream about it
and people who know they can get it.

only the people who know, will ever make that kind of money.

nap 01-10-2004 07:01 AM

600k...my goal right now is 3-10k per month. keep the board updated if you come close to that goal of 600k per year

this isn't exactly "ultra" low risk, but i'll throw it out there anyways..

have you taken a look at income trusts? i've been finding and buying high yield income trusts (10+% on just the cash distribution) and holding them in one of my self directed RRSP accounts. they're providing a good solid yield on just the cash distribution, and their unit values have all appreciated since i bought them.

there are many mutual funds who take this approach if you want to get a little more hands off. if you go the self directed route, to deal with volatility, you can throw some stops in at 10% below your book value or whatever you're comfortable with. unless something drastic happens like a cash distribution is raised/lowered, there isn't much volitility anyways.

10% a year? Bah, I'd only settle for that if I had massive startup capital. Right now I'd be pissed with 10% daily returns. Of course it does involve some work, but not all that much if you know how to manage your orders and are good at analyzing the charts.

That's your problem. Your wishing and not doing. $600k per year is a easily reachable goal. Work smart not hard. Get a game plan and then do what's needed to get that game plan done.

even less risky:

buy airworthy single engine aircraft, probably cessna.

put them out in leaseback to flight schools to cover holding costs.

for the last 20 years single engine cessna appreciation has exceeded real estate and inflation.

3-4 M+ liquid, believe me i'd be happy to get 10% extremely low risk, extremely low maintainance, year after year. 300-400K+ a year sitting on my ass, traveling, going to uni, etc once i'm done with adult. sounds good to me. of course 12-15% would be even better ;) already have invested in several properties, as well as undeveloped land, but i'd still rather get an almost garranteed but lower rate of return, with very little maintainance, over more headaches and risk for a higher return.
