thought on how to get back at spam
 

It's common for spammers to send large (albeit highly compressed) images with their spam.

I think it'd be fun to grab the URL of the image, run an application on the desktop that does nothing but download that image again and again, hopefully with multiple threads over night or something. I imagine you can take this 12K image and cost them a few GB with it.

Has it been done before? Any reason it couldn't be done? I realize if spammers catch on they'd have to (and could) build countermeasures, but it'd be fun for a while.

The best way to get at porn spammers is to lobby your local government to treat porn spammers as they would any person who deliberately provided porn to children.

If you walk into a schoolground and start showing porn to kids you have just become a sexual offender. Why should it be any different if you flood kids mailboxes with it ?

Spammers (whatever they sell) have no regard for anyone other than themselves. They are gutter living reptiles and I would gladly see them jailed for the con men and snake oil merchants they are.

suppose I could do both, but something about personally screwing the spammers has its own nice ring to it
