Any thoughts on using black as a bg?

I used black for many of my sites. I liked it!

so do I, but they are all graphic intensive

im a little concerned about doing that with a text based site


but thats what im used to so im confused as to what to do

Not at all, as long as you will keep the same colour for the font!
I guess you better start back to read the fundamentals regarding design, specialy for text based ones

depends upon the niche.

Great for fetish, hardcore, video sites, but not good for teen solo girl type stuff.

White on black always ends up burning my eyes after any amount of serious reading. Unless people skim this is going to get annoying imo.

but hey
worldsex has a black bg and people visit it everyday
so all in all its about the content and quality
but for none established sites i would not recommend black

black bg is good, I use it often too coz I think white is soooo plain

White text is hard to read on black .
Black text on white has been used on paper for hundreds of years and people accept it more readily . and read it easier .

I do mostly amateur sites and when I got started I was told by a much more experienced webmaster that white bg converts better... but give it a try and see what works

I like and prefer black backgrounds because they make the pictures and colors of the images stand out better. but all
depends on the person some people hate black some love it.
but to be honest most people dont care..

If you're doing a text heavy page, I would avoid a black ground. However, if the rest of the site is on black, it makes the page look pretty strange if there's a dramatic departure from the site color scheme.

A lot of text?
I would suspect that black text on a white background would be the best otherwise newspapers, books and magazines would have black pages.
