... let's say, I know a website that converts 1:20 and you get about $70 for every signup you send. would you be interested in promoting it ??

Ofcouse would i be interested but these deals always end up differently. I dont know what it is you have but i can tell you as soon as i start promoting it that 1:20 ratio will jump to 1:500 and after 2 weeks to 1:2000 like always.

but 1:20 is possible and $70 per a signup is, depends on traffic (eg how targetted, eg buy viagra traffic from a search engine".

It IS possible but only with highly filtered traffic. Very targeted SE traffic that leads to a page that already shows the price so the only people who are highly interested will click through. And it would almost be impossible to do this with high volumes. So thats basically like counting 3rd page clicks or join pages clicks.
