What's the skinny on RSS newsfeeds and newsfeed readers?
 

Is anyone here familiar with rss newsfeeds? I was looking at
http://www.rssreader.com/
and want to try it out, but I am not familiar with them at all.

Are they safe? I mean, the list of feeds on that site are basically major corporations, so I doubt they'd try any monkey business, but would the reader program open one's computer, so to speak, to the outside world?

Are they a waste of time? Is it easier/better, or even the norm, to simply go to the news sites them selves, or a portal site of sorts?

I think that for someone at work where certain sites can be blocked, being able to read the RSS feed is one way to circumvent the system.
