.co.za cashiers check scams?
 

I posted an item up for sale on craigslist and got a response from a good fellow emailing me from .co.za... And I know about all the scams coming out of there and remember hearing something to the effect of them sending you a check, you cashing it, then they request a certain ammount to be sent back. The ammount he is requesting back is significant... and so is the ammount for the item. Anyone want to clear this up for me, a cashiers check from that country if cashed by my bank or store would not be my liability or deficit if cashed correct? I assume the bank would check into the legitimacy of this first right?

It could be good. Though cashiers checks and money orders in request as payment are generally not a good idea to me. In terms of getting them... I don't really know. I will say that they are not the way I would like to handle any transaction.

Feel free to deposit the item but i would wait until the item has cleared. When you deposit a check the bank usually puts an X amount of day hold on it to allow for it to clear.

One the item is cleared the cash is yours and that is all there is to it.

thanks, thats what i figgured... the guy offered to send me a cashiers check for the ammount i requested plus some for shipping and insurance. he seems genuine and a good guy, i just didnt wanna get fucked in any way.
