have freehosts ever made any money?

considering bandwidth is getting cheaper and cheaper every few months you'd think more would be springing up.

was this ever a good idea at any point?

They made money in the past, but they have hardtimes lately. Bandwith is so cheap, that it's almost free & that's hard competition for them. Also, people got used to payhosts, because they were ripped off few times & they don't want to lose their months work again.

sure they do but most crash and burn within a few months

There are a lot of people who still use Free Hosts for there gallery or free sites :2 cents:

It is a good idea until some started screwing up the webmasters, redirecting traffic, installing auto-dialers, etc.

lot of policing but yes if you have the time its worth it

I think you're right on the money.

It's the not knowing how long they'll be around, when they'll begin redirecting traffic, or if the network can handle traffic to your galleries.

If you choose freehosts it's probably best to stick with the large freehosts such as kinghost.

They make big time money but it's hard work (alot of unlicenced content,CP,leechers...) and it takes quite some startup money.

interesting... say you were just picking a market segment and just hosting for them (ie, amateur girls only).

Wouldn't that make a 2257 mess? I doubt they would throw their real name and address up. No CC# so no idea if they are an adult or not.

How much startup money would you estimate? I'm guessing it would take a minimum dedicated server from a webhost "just incase".

Maybe webair can answer this, free reseller webhost on virtual account? :)

back in '98 and '99, it would be worth your time. I'm sure that FSN guy is retired now
