Mainstream's dirty little secret

Just back from Internext and all caught up now, here is my latest article that talks about Real Networks having a booth at Internext.

Real Networks was with PPVNetworks .com

PPV had a double booth, one side was PPV, otherside Real... that's why they weren't listed in the Exhibitors list: http://www.internext-expo.com/html/e..._list-lv.shtml

I left my digital camera at home.. would have made a great shot with some girlies standing in front of the Real Networks booth.

So why was RN there?

But the secret is out! The stigma must not be so bad if Real Networks paid money to have a booth at a porn convention. The secret is out that mainstream wants to tap into the profitability of an industry that has survived the dot-bomb era. What's not a secret is the lack of support by the major players to support companies (mainstream or adult) who use their products and are targeted by a patent claim that so many feel is absurd.

The secret has been out for years now, this is nothing new. Mainstream has been grabbing for a slice of the adult industry $$ for a while now, mainly low key and secretly of course.

I dont think real networks will ever back the adult industry to fight Acacia.

If acacia gets greedy and stupid enough to go after the bigger mainstream companies thats when they will fail. However if all they do is feed on the small fish they may be successful, but its still to early to tell even with that until the first lawsuit goes to court.

They were sharing the booth with PPV networks.. looking to drum up more business within the adult industry.

It's sad when they won't even back mainstream companies.

exactly.. why bite the hand that feeds you? Acacia can rack up more licenses going after people who use other people's technology to infringe the patent, rather than going after the big boys.

Feb 6th is the first court date for the current 11 defendants.

i spoke with the real networks people at internext. they said none of them were qualified to make official public statements on the matter. they did say that an official spokesperson would be at CES.

If anyone is going to CES.. be sure to stop by the Real Networks booth and ask the PR person what Real's position is.. and please send me a note of what you find.... always fun to read corporate spin.
