using eBay to promote web sites

The guy taking a pic of the C3PO is one idea...

Why don't more people use eBay to promote their site? (At least it would be safe for non-porn sites)

example: do something stupid like that guy did but somehow incorporate your site in the listing. I know it's against eBays policy to list domains in auction descriptions but there are ways I guess you can get around that. One being you can make your user name www_yoursite_com - they don't allow www.yoursite.com but they do allow _com - go figure.

We tried to actual membership to our site, the problem was getting people to visit the ad. It's been a couple of years now, but I think we only got 10 or so views. How would you get ebay buyers to stop by and view your ad? The only reason he got 75K views is via word-of-mouth, which is probably more of a lottery draw than strategy.

Interesting idea.

Why not auction alot of cheap adult items and plaster your url into every preview pic?

we did it when i worked at ephotoart.com like 4 years ago.
we sold photography so we would put a piece up and put the name ephotoart.com over and over again in the desc.

I think simply pasting your URL in the photo is against their policy and if they find you doing it they will close your account. If you happen to take a picture of something, and inside of the actual photo was the URL that would be different though, but I doubt it would generate many hits.
