$ Exchange Rate - Alternatives and Verotel
Like many I am suffering with the exchange rate $ to Euro. Being situated in the UK and about to launch a new project this issue is concerning me.
First up - I work with Verotel quite a bit so I asked them what the alternatives were with them. They said they have none at the moment - they only work in $'s. However, they also said if enough webmasters enquire about this then they will look into perhaps offering processing in Euros additionally. This would be very useful to me so I wanted to make anyone else in the same situation aware that they should write Verotel and express an interest if they think they would want this too. Secondly - does anyone have alternatives to US based processors that will process in either Euros or UK money rather then $'s and are ok with handling adult biz? If so post here? From the way I see it the $ rate is going to get much worse before it gets better :( |
good luck.........................................

Thanks.
I have quite a few US based sites but I'm just sick of loosing so much in the exchange rate. It all adds up and you end up with a pathetic looking bank account :( Before anyone suggests it - no I am not rich enough yet to keep it all in $'s until things get better. So if anyone has any alternatives post here. Or if you would like this feature with Verotel, write them and they say they will look into it if there is enough of us. |
I haven't had a chance to check these yet, so they may not even accept adult accounts and shit, but there on my list to check out for non-dollar payments.
http://www.billingfrance.net http://libereco.net http://www.webmasterorder.de/ (didn't see an english translation on this one). |
Thanks, for the pointers. I haven't come across these before so I am investigating them and will post anything I find out. I did notice that libereco.net require a merchant account which may be a no go for some...

seems like there is no "good" solution for it yet... how long will it take before the dollar will come back again?

Personally I think Bush will win the next election and I think therefore not much will change with the exchange rate and it's likely to continue the way it has been going long term. At least until it starts to affect the US economy noticeably (if it does).
Looking back over the last 30 years the 90s have been plain sailing for the exchange rate compared to some of the things it did in the 70s and 80s. At one point for example 1 UKP would buy you $2.5. If you plan for worst case scenarios in your business I would consider the effect that would have on your business if it happened today and then start looking for some solutions fast!!! Just because the $ has been stable for a decade doesn't mean it will be for the next decade! :( It removes one element of risk if your processor is paying you in your home currency so doing this, if it's possible, would be a good thing irrespective of anything else. The only problem is finding such a processor :( |
Umm, Verotel can send your wires in euros, but they can't change the exchange rate. Surfers from Europe see their signup pages in euros too, but the price is set in dollars. Do you want to give US surfers the price in euro? I don't think they'd go for that...
You can always raise your prices... I doubled mine in november and signups stayed the same, so I'm a happy camper :) |
euro exchange rate is high compare with dollars

I thought Euro was winning the exchange war against the dollar?
And as long as you get paid within 2 weeks who gives a fuck if you lost half a penny per dollar? |

Yes, you can raise prices but that's a short term solution. You can't keep doing that - particularly if the $ continues the way it's going as I think it will and particularly in a market that's getting tougher...
www.billingfrance.net - yes they do do adult as long as it's legal but they take 17% + a 10% roll over. They charge and pay in Euros for anyone interested. Then of course there is the question of who is next on VISA's list to shut down... :( |

So, nothing gonna change soon, I think 2 years ago, the US aided the EURO, so it wouldn't slip too far, the dollar is already passed that EURO low and they still don't seem to want to change this, Greenspan ask the ECB to help the dollar. |
