The strange thing to me is his daughter said that she wanted him to have a fair trial. Did she not realize that he unfairly killed and gased his own people. He also killed her husband. I guess she really loves her dad though, and you can't fault her for that. It just seemed odd that she thought people would treat him fairly.

By his bodyguard, who's also a relative of his. No doubt he was doped, otherwise it'd be very difficult to explain his capture. Do you think that soldiers were gonna go through that tiny hole one-by-one hoping that Saddam won't notice them sneaking in and shoot? It'd be suicide for the first one to enter the hole.

The only plausible scenarios are :
1) He was doped by his bodyguard
2) The soldiers threw a chemical substance into the hole in order to put Saddam to sleep.
