What effect do contests have in getting you to sign up for a Program?

Would you rather have CASH or PRIZES?

If it's Prizes, what would you like?

flashfire 01-06-2004 05:46 PM

Prizes like trips and stuff are best, if I get money I rarely blow it on something fun

Ross 01-06-2004 05:47 PM

I don't really buy into this stuff with contests and shit. If someone has to get recognized that much then they must not be worth promoting.

Well I suppose thats not always the case. But look at some of the big sponsors. They don't chuck Xboxes at people and money unless they make the sales!

chadglni 01-06-2004 05:49 PM

One time cash/prizes don't really do it for me but an increased pay rate gives me wood.

sixxxth_sense 01-06-2004 05:50 PM

CASH

$5 submissions 01-06-2004 05:51 PM

Thanks guys, please give more feedback.

Here's what I'm getting so far

Increased conversions are better than prizes

"Fun" prizes and trips

Increased PAYOUT at certain conversion levels or as a prize

AdultNex 01-06-2004 05:51 PM

Cash, gives you the freedom to buy those prizes.

Rorschach 01-06-2004 05:58 PM

If I want something I'll just buy it... the only thing that determines where I send my traffic is who sends me the most money. I would MUCH rather just have more money than any prizes/ rewards points etc.

CASH

sandman! 01-06-2004 06:29 PM

cash is king

buddyjuf 01-06-2004 06:30 PM

if I get cash, I wont buy myself something nice, I will just use it to pay for bills and such

therefore it doesnt have the same effect on me as prizes such as a laptop or a trip to europe :thumbsup

Raf1 01-06-2004 06:36 PM

CASH, CASH, AND MORE CASH :evil-laug

JSA Matt 01-06-2004 06:37 PM

Contests will not get you long term webmasters.. only your program can do that :winkwink:

Mr. Marks 01-06-2004 08:44 PM

I'd say most people would take cash but you should tie it to either a sales goal or a referral goal (of other webmasters).

russian_agent_69 01-06-2004 08:47 PM

The cheap, contest spamming postwhores should take note of this thread (Darren).

The best would be CASH and Prizes.

jds 01-06-2004 11:11 PM

Prizes have to be only an exceptionnal bonus that comes with and along the cash and not in replacement of.

tootie 01-06-2004 11:17 PM

I don't usually like contests because they usually give the prizes to top affiliates or to the ones that send the most traffic. Those people can buy their own X-Box or trip to Maui or whatever. :)

MuleScrote 01-06-2004 11:19 PM

I don't ever sign up for cash and prizes...I tend to stick with sponsors that I have been working with.

I have more loyalty in business relationships i guess.

BUT...I do need an xbox or ps2 :)

XxXotic 01-06-2004 11:20 PM

prizes with the ability to get the cash equivelent if not happy with the prize

QualityMpegs 01-06-2004 11:22 PM

$5...it sounds like you should offer fun prizes, but also give a backup...if the person doesn't want the prize, give the them cash value instead...

I would want the prize, because if I got the cash, I wouldnt buy something fun...I'd waste it on bills :)

Mr. Marks 01-06-2004 11:41 PM

I would take a modded XBOX and 100 games (cracked is okay)

Yup. There's no real logic in getting new webmasters to promote a program if that's the case.

contest are only good enough to give them program a test run. they have to be good to stay.

pradaboy 01-07-2004 11:55 AM

they have noooooo part in my decision to join a program whatsoever
it's about the program... not some contests

LukieD 01-07-2004 11:58 AM

Yes, but a contest might give you a chance to see/trial a program that under other circumstances you wouldn't try. This can benefit both the program owner and the affiliate if it converts well with their traffic.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I'm sure this thread has been instructive not just for myself but for others as well. Please keep the feedback coming.

Krille 01-07-2004 03:21 PM

cash is prefered

reynold 01-07-2004 08:01 PM

Cash or maybe travel.

$5 submissions 01-08-2004 06:48 PM

How about travel to Tahiti or some exotic locale?

Mr. Marks 01-08-2004 08:43 PM

Maybe a contest that has 2 levels. one that pays for exceptional performance and another just for a lucky webmaster that signs up.

bluff 02-12-2004 04:52 PM

A Prize gives more of a psychological feel that you've achieved something... so I'll vote PRIZES on your question.
