cheap MSOFFICE alternative
i was talking earlier with an old friend that he's manager in a company and he told me they use software602 suite in many systems as an alternative of msoffice. He's crazy anti-microsoft guy....probably that's why.
anyway, here's the link. + http://www.software602.com/products/pcs/business.html If you try to keep low cost regarding software application purchases for you or your company, it can benefit you since its only $60 Fully compatible with office and almost similar function, same menus etc |
forgot to tell, the $60 version is for 3 computers, so it's like $20/system

Why not go free then with something like Star Office?

that's what i was thinking. i've never heard of this program, who's to say it's any good, or it will be here in 6 months? |

Star Office is obselete.
OpenOffice is based on the StarOffice code and is updated regularily. For most users, it does everything you need MS Office for. Available for Windows, Mac, Linux/FreeBSD, etc. http://openoffice.org Costs a lot less than $60 too :) http://www.fuzebox.org/shots/openoffice.jpg |
has anyone used ximian for email?
just curious. i haven't set up my unix box yet, but i have been looking for a replacement for outlook, but something that can read in my existing .pst, and something that can easily backup everything into 1 file like outlook... |
openoffice.org looks very good

Works great, does everything I need it to, perfect compatibility with the M$ file formats. |

I used it for a while, but graphical email gets on my nerves. Both the email client and the calendar work pretty well though. Not sure about the compatibility with existing outlook data though. |

yeah, my bad, i meant evolution. actually, at the moment i just downloaded mozilla thunderbird and it's importing my mail from outlook. let's see if it does a decent job. as long as it will import my shit and i can back it up decent enough, i'm good. |

i think thunderbird will work well. it imported all my outlook mail and folders perfectly, i am quite surprised. now, just as long as everything works as far as saving mail between unix and windows, i'm set :)
