Mobile Phones cause brain cancer

Many lawsuits allege this. What is your take? I know I get raging headaches sometimes after using my Ericsson.

Ben-MensNiche 01-05-2004 11:46 PM

I get raging headaches after talking to my wife...does that prove that women give you brain cancer?

Specially if you do it several times a day. But I thought there are protective casings developed for this?

Vitasoy 01-05-2004 11:53 PM

there soo much things to worry about.... so I say fuk it :winkwink:

KRL 01-05-2004 11:55 PM

The lawyers are salivating like rabid coyotes as always. That's my take. With over a billion users worldwide it would be the largest class action lawsuit ever and would bankrupt every insurance company in the world and put the telecom's out of business.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

If there's some merit to it, the truth will out.

It may take decades...like tobacco... but it will happen (assuming there's merit to it)

Actually, it's not a microwave - it's no different than listening to the radio on your walkman - except that it's a transceiver instead of a straight receiver. It transmits and receives in VHF not in Microwave form, so the whole "study" where you place an egg between the antennas of two cellphones and called one cellphone to the other and cook the egg...try it, it doesn't work. The reason for that, is that VHF can't cook an egg - or anything else for that matter. VHF transmissions are all around us. Does sitting next to the radio while you're listening to it cause brain cancer? No more or less than your cellphone does.

You might get a headache or earache if you spend ages on your cellphone, but if you do, you'll probably develop the same symptoms from listening to your discman, walkman or radio for hours on end.

Your headache is more likely to be caused by the bad reception you're getting causing an inaudible high pitch screeching.

Interesting "inaudible sound"

Tell them they're gonna need a lawyer, and a good one - they're up against the O.J. Simpson lawyer :thumbsup

Phoenix 01-06-2004 12:16 AM

I worked for cellphone companies, and I can assure you they're VHF based not microwave.

I'll let you study the intricacies of the electromagnetic spectrum, but I'm sure you'll find that VHF is as harmless to your brain as TV is to your eyes.

From the FDA website:

"Wireless phones emit low levels of radiofrequency energy (RF) in the microwave range while being used."

http://www.fda.gov/cellphones/qa.html#22

pradaboy 01-06-2004 12:58 AM

I'm not sure on this subject yet... a lot of studies proved it does hurt and a lot dispoved this...

I'd just like to ask what the "food and drug administration" think they know about cellphones?

The chip that the cellphone uses to transmit and receive is a 1900MHz or 850MHz VHF Transceiver.

You need to check your books again, those frequencies are UHF (300MHz - 3,000MHz)

rowan 01-06-2004 02:50 PM

And also the argument is not specifically about the frequency, it's the fact that you have a transmitting antenna sitting right next to your head... intensity increases exponentially as you get closer to the transmitting source.

Along the same lines - halogen lights up in your ceiling don't do much, but if you put one next to your cheek you would get sunburnt.

welcome to 20 years ago

they have xrays of peoples brains from the 80's with circular spaded cancer,,,identical to the cell phone antenas.

That is why the cell phone makers never say,,,this new cell phone gives off 1/2 the radiation of the previous model

Oracle Porn 01-06-2004 03:46 PM

I know someone who died from having brain cancer that was caused by talking on the cellphone too much

indeed, it's the cerebral membrane that senses swellings (for example edema) in the brain or tissue above it

Hopefully this is just a bunch of lawyers trolling for cases. It would suck if this turned out to be a real danger.
