Man, 87, Charged in Calif. Market Deaths (bad driver)
 

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- An 87-year-old man was charged with manslaughter Monday in the deaths of 10 people who were killed when his car barreled through a farmers market last summer, authorities said.

George R. Weller faces 10 felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence stemming from the July crash, which also injured 63 people, prosecutors said.

Police had asked prosecutors to bring a manslaughter case after a five-month investigation concluded that the tragedy was the result of unsafe speed and other violations.

Police said Weller didn't try to stop his car as he sped nearly 1,000 feet along the Santa Monica street where the market was held, smashing produce stands and leaving dozens injured in his wake.

i'm glad they charged him! did you see how long he went hitting things and people before his car stopped? either he did it on purpose or else he's much too impaired to drive and shouldn't have done so.

Fuck him. He's getting off easy.

The lady who hit the guy and left him in the windshield got a murder conviction and 60 years even though it was proven that she was intoxicated and not in control which normally is a man slaughter charge.

Burn that old bastard! He didn't even try to stop because he thought he was going to get away.
