TGP's: worth the effort to start now or not?
 

i know very little about them, I've always had my focus on other adult stuff: camsites, paysites, content, etc.
they look like alot of work, is the payoff worth it?
and how much time is one gonna eat?

Depends on what you want to do. Obviously you won't make any real money from a TGP but it's nice to have the traffic to throw around. I know guys who run those stupid thumb sites that spend a couple of hours on them a day and I know guys (like myself) that have everything automated and spend about 5 minutes a day. I always think TGPs should be sort of "fire and forget". I don't want to fuck with them all the time.

i just bought several dozen k of tgp clicked traffic and piped it into my real money makers and fucking got close to ZERO roi.

i think those surfers just want free porn and thats not what im in business to provide.

You are way too late in the game to start a TGP. Stick to your strengths.

If you can get it established and automated then they are great as a nice little money maker - its getting there that is the hard part, imho.

IMHO TGP's are almost dead already. It isn't worth to start with them... On other hand, FHG's look like a future of the industry.

If you do start with tgps, use an autosubmitter to see if you can get traffic, get traffic to sponsors and such. If you do decent, work on partner accounts.

I see new TGPs pop up all the time and some end up with lots of traffic.

I don't think so unless you have a very special niche, lots of money, patience and good contacts out there. It may take two years but if you earn the surfer's trust, you can do that. No blind links or thumbs, tricky scripts, skimming that is.

Lots of traffic is not enough.. you have to make the surfer click your sponsors banners, buttons to make $$$ so don't cheat them.

I never give away traffic... only pr :)

Most of these get plugs from the popular and original TGP's, Lumberjack-Links.com was just started not long ago, but it was given plugs from the top TGPs.

The FHG's are better than TGP's because:
1) They could not be cloned as much as TGP's, so they won't spoil the Net.
2) FHG's are under control of their owners. So you could be sure that no one will promote your site with stolen or even illegal content such as (rape, zoo, cp etc)
3) FHG's are under control of their owners. So you could be sure that no one will promote your site with the top quality content which is better than your own one (you will be better protected from fuckin' chargebacks, and surfers will see only those pics that you are ready to show him).

Of course all the above is just IMHO...

A TGP site of all FHGs won't work well - the galleries get worn out.

To many people doing TGPs to start with, but it's a way to get traffic. Of course ya can go through 100K hits without a conversion. It's also away to learn about SEO etc.

I see some small free sites doing well. Ya really have to find a niche to make it work though.

Funny - I've been thinking about a TGP site myself. I've had the opportunity to buy a few lately, but haven't had the time to devote to them - plus I don't know much about running them.

Seems to me if you could put together a TGP that kept the best interest of the surfer in mind and could insure that they have a nice surfing experience, you could find a good following. I've checked out a lot of TGP's lately (even those of the big boys) and most of them are shit. Shitty looking galleries, consoles, popups and sometimes when I click to see a gallery, I get forwarded to someone elses TGP site - do surfers like this shit?

Why would you care if a surfer liked how you gave them FREE porn? This is a business, and the business is to sell their ass something. Most people starting a new TGP seem to forget this in their AIM to please the customer and become the next Hun. It just aint happening. I'm not saying send them off to dialers, popups, etc but the rules 90% of TGP's have to keep galleries spic and fucking span is retarded from a business standpoint.

One use we have for tgps and mgps - BRANDING.

We ran some video ads on Consumption Junction, which is essentially a HUGE tgp/mgp.

We got good signups from it on the days the ads ran, but more interesting was the later SE traffic. Tons of searches looking specifically for our website name.

The key was extreme/unusual content - we had some 'eyecum' stuff (cumshot on the eyeball) and extreme facials.

I think you could apply this concept to tgps/mgps in general. On the other side of it - I think they can make money, but you have to be willing to take the bandwidth plunge.

I have a 100k thumb preview TGP with 99% free hosted gals - the prod is 300% and it's profitable. Works for me...
