Test your age by remembering when ..
Here's some stuff I was just pondering ..
Do you remember when.. Microwaves were invented? Beta VCRs? Cassette tapes came out? Or CDs? Did you own an AppleIIe ? Were you comfortable with DOS ? Did you have an Atari, or did it belong to your kids ? Did your car have an 8 track player and in the house you were hi-tech with reel to reel? How about microwave popcorn? TV trays/TV dinners? Do you remember the birrage of Cuban refugees into Florida? How about when Kennedy was shot? Were you old enough to watch the funeral, or old enough to vote in his election? Do you remember when Nixon was still not a crook? Watergate, and 50 cent gasoline? If you're in southwestern US, do you remember when reporter Don Bolles was exploded in a car bomb for reporting against the mob? Did you watch Dr. King live on TV ? Just wondering :) |

I remembered quite distinctley in the 60's when we had our first touchtone phone installed and you no longer had to use those stupid rotary click, click, phones anymore. I sat there all day pushing the buttons on it and was totally fascinated by the key tone sounds.
Also remember getting our first color TV and thinking how amazing it was that they could transmit color just like that after watching everything in black and white for so long. No remotes back then either. If you wanted to change channels you had to get up and turn the dial manually every time. We only had the 3 major networks back then and 3 UHF stations. I also remember going to the Worlds Fair back in the 60's and they had an incredible display auditoruim showing what things would be like in the future. It was fascinating and much of those predictions came into being. From This: http://www.bellsystemmemorial.com/images/554_1.jpg To This: http://www.bellsystemmemorial.com/images/we2500mmg.jpg |
My first calculator back in 1972. OMG this was so damn cool back then, you have no idea.

We still have a phone just like this one somewhere. They NEVER wear out. :) |
I'm an old fart so here goes:
Microwaves were invented? Yes Beta VCRs? Yes, but we had just bought a videodisc player so we skipped Beta and moved directly to VHS. Cassette tapes came out? Or CDs? Yes to both. I was pretty young when cassettes hit though. Were you comfortable with DOS ? Sort of. Did you have an Atari, or did it belong to your kids ? I wasted many days playing Combat. How about microwave popcorn? I always preferred the stuff in the giant exploding tinfoil pouch that you put on the stove. |

I remember all those things except the Kennedy stuff. I wasn't born when he died. As for the rest of the stuff, I pretty much remember most of the gadjets (sp?) we had since I was the one most fascinated with it all. We still have a Super8 video camera & player somewhere in this house - in order to see the film you had to send out your footage to Kodak (by mail) to get it developed and they'd mail it back within a month or so - my dad used to bitch and complain they took to long to send it back. Boy have times changed. My dad would be just as fascinated as I am if he were still around.
