Jesus, kids are expensive these days.

My 9 yr old just got back from a 1 week Caribbean cruise with my ex-wife. Little rascal ran up a $400 tab for the week playing video games in the ship's arcade.

Pornwolf 01-04-2004 02:43 AM

Oh shit! I forgot how expensive arcade games have gotten! You can't play anything except Pac Man and Galaga for 25 cent!

You spend $1.300.000 on a domain name and complain about $400 ? :1orglaugh

Next time buy him a handheld to take with him, or one of those 7" LCD screens that hooks to the top of his Xbox.
What was the ex-wife doing the whole time he was in the arcade? Aren't cruises with Mom supposed to be so you can spend time WITH Mom?

Poor guy is never going to be thought of as anything other than "the guy who spent 1.3 mil on men.com" now... :(

If your little is at a carib cruse and spend that much for playing video games, you should better think about his mind a little bit!

haha, you didn't see the smiley, did you?

But still there are lots of rich guys here, who spend far more that that in one night, so $400 per week spent by his kid on holiday for whatever, isn't necessarly so much.

One's an investment the other is a waste of money.

You think she cares? He made 2 friends onboard and they were cruising all over the boat on their own while she was sunbathing most of the time.

I'm the exact opposite and probably overly protective.

He's in a $5K a year private school already. Ridiculous, but the public schools suck down here.

I'm trying to instill in him the value of money and to not be wasteful. My ex spends money like there's no tomorrow and is fucking up his head.

Carrie 01-04-2004 04:22 AM

Me too. No way I'd let my 9yr old out of my sight on a boat filled with strangers (unless he was with Dad or grandparents, of course).
But I guess that's why there's that little "EX" part in front of her title... :thumbsup
Poor kid. I'm sure he had a blast, but... you know. One day he'll wish she had actually given a shit and wanted to spend time with him.

Carrie 01-04-2004 04:23 AM

Hey KRL I've got an idea.
Send the $400 bill back to her and tell her it's an electronic babysitter fee. :winkwink:

Nothing like a table top pac man and a table top galaga at pizza hut.

AOJ Brian 01-04-2004 04:28 AM

Its kinda sad that a kid goes on a vacation and just ends up playing video games the whole time. .. probably like he does at home.

I'm glad I don't have kids.. I'd REALLY fuck em up trying to make them come out normal. :D

Brian

Carrie 01-04-2004 04:30 AM

You know the more I think about this the more it pisses me off. How long does it take to rack up $400 in an arcade?
That whole time he could've been drowning in the pool, falling off the side of the ship, choking on something at the snack bar, or being felt up in the bathroom by some pervert and she never would've known.

:feels-hot

OMG It's so very hard raising kids with old fashioned morals like my mother did with me. I try any opportunity I get, but all the external forces make it extremely difficult in today's world.

I was recently in florida and spent some time at the Dave and Busters in that Dolphin Mall, its amazing how many people of all ages where playing non stop.

By the way dave and busters is a publicly traded company.

He did. Him and his 2 little friends ran up to an old fashioned car they had displayed in a 50's style restaurant onboard and he jumped up to look inside and lanced his hand on a piece of sharp metal that was protruding.

And of course she didn't even think to disinfect it which I couldn't believe.

They were also riding up and down on the elevators alone he told me pushing all the buttons and the boat security people came and scolded them and told them not to use the elevators unless they were with parents.

Unreal, simply unreal. Thousands of people on these big cruise ships and you know there's got to be be at least a couple pervs amonst them. It just makes me shudder to think about it.

hehe I remember when everything was 25 cents, now you would be lucky to find pacman for under a buck.

You own arcades don't you? My grandfather had a small one and made damn nice money off of it and that was with those old fashioned pinball games in those days. He used to have boxes of quarters I remember seeing all the time as a kid.

LOL my kid loves that one. I figured that was up there near the top of the list.

Nice!

I sold one of our first 976 phone sex numbers to a guy for $25K who was in the arcade business and he seriously asked me when we were setting up the closing if he could pay me in cash with all quarters. He had machines in 7-11's all over Southern California.

Things have changed, most arcades now have the token dispensers, so now its mostlt $1 and $5 bills.

Even most video games machines are now switched to the token slot.

In dave and busters in most locations you need to buy cards (looks like a credit card)

slapass 01-04-2004 08:58 AM

ESPN in chicago does the card thing and the kids blew $50 in a few hours and I was right there. So $400 over several days is not that unreal. hhhmmm maybe it is.

TheJimmy 01-04-2004 09:06 AM

Don't feel bad, mine cost me 20k in cash within his first month of life...

Turns out the insurance we picked up through one of the woman's endeavors was total shite...2-3 days in the hospital and a c-section was gonna run 40k after the insurance company said they'd cover a few K...

we called bullshit to the hospital billing agency as we know they write off a huge % of the bill for 90% of their other clients...

they finally said

'ok, pay us 20k in 2 weeks and we'll write off the rest'

next time I have a kid I'm moving to canada or will have to make sure that 20k I had at the house is mere chump change and not what I was saving up to pay off some taxes...

Dusen 01-04-2004 09:07 AM

I agree, It must be an UNBELIVABLY hard task to teach a son/daughter about the value of money when they've seen a well-to-do lifestyle.

You have a job I'm glad I don't right now. :)
