Why do people think fastfood workers are losers?

But seriously, why do people bag on people who work at McDonald's or any fast food establishment? Just by working there are they automatically losers? What if they are students? What if they just went through a nasty divorce and are down on their luck?

Isn't there dignity in having a job and WORKING for your keep rather than sponging off the government or relatives?

Personally, I have more respect for people that work than people that don't and definitely more respect for people that earn money legally than through jacking/cheating.

This thread was inpired by the photoshopped pic of Lil2Rich in a McDonald's drive through counter

Half the time my order is wrong. This tends to make me think the poeple working at the local McDonalds are not that intelligent. It's really not hard, when someone orders a "Bacon double cheese burger", it's expected that there will be bacon on it. Duh.

myjah 01-03-2004 04:15 PM

i think maybe society thinks like that because there a like a million better jobs out there, and these people settled for working at a fast food joint. God Bless 'em - i wouldn't eat without 'em

with hundreds of orders going through it sometimes goes wrong... just like servers go down, people get double billed etc by mistake...

some people i agree at mcdonalds are as dumb as fuck but not everyone.

washiez 01-03-2004 04:17 PM

Some of these people that work there.. are actualy doing it so they can get the "experience" to join as an owner in the franchise. And some of these places make a lot of money...

Why? Because most people are worthless assholes. I've got respect for anyone that's working to make something out of their life and not just lounging on the system.

Exactly. If it weren't for fastfood workers and other lower paid employees, key functions in this society would be missing.

I just don't get the bashing. Seems like America as a society has become elitist instead of democratic.:2 cents:

Pink Recalls Drug Days at McDonald's

Like a lot of teens, Pink worked at her share of fast-food restaurants. She wasn't exactly a candidate for employee of the month at any of them, though. In a recent interview with The Associated Press, the singer recalled her days at a McDonald's outside Philadelphia.

"I was horrible," said Pink, when asked what kind of worker she was.

"I would open (the restaurant), because I'd be tripping on acid ... and I would say, 'Could I have bathroom duty?' And I would sit in bathroom and watch the tiles."

But despite smoking cigarettes at the drive-thru window and doling out free fries to her friends, she says she worked there a year.

She says she also worked at Pizza Hut for a year but lasted at Wendy's only for an hour and a half

Every time I go to a fast food restaurant my order gets screwed up. Okay, at least 8 times out of 10. How hard is it to read a list and pack some food in a bag?

If they'd do their job it wouldn't be so bad, but yeah, most of them are losers that can't even read and follow directions well enough to pack a bag of food.

tootie 01-03-2004 04:28 PM

Oh, and just to elaborate, I NEVER put down the workers, even when they DO get my order wrong, and we always tip well at restaurants where that is customary. I show them respect and I do understand it is a difficult job. I worked fast food for several years, myself. But in about 5 years of working fast food I got maybe 2 orders wrong. It just drives me crazy that we have to double check their work every time because it happens soooo often. :(

If you actually think about what you said and most people did then you would think differently. Most people who take on fast food as a career do a very good job. Those who screw your shit up aren't working there as a career and are usually younger high school and just out of high school. So it's not a statement on the stupidity or that fast food workers are losers, it's a statement on the shitty education system that we have in this wonderful country.

I remember our class valedictorian when I was in high school worked the maximum number of hours an underage kid is allowed to work at McDonalds. He managed to get straight As and become a pretty decent guitar player at the same time. When he went off to college, he had a nice chunk of change in the bank so I'm sure he got a lot of pussy since all the other college guys were probably broke unless mommy and daddy were rich.

- AFN - 01-03-2004 04:32 PM

He sounds like an achiever. Probably will become very successful in life.

I guess the subtext of what this thread is about is RESPECT FOR LABOR. Just because you make chump change, doesn't mean you are a loser or you're low quality.

It seems we as a society are moving away from that respect...

Yeah, even our colleges must suck, because about 60% of the time the managers don't even keep their restaurants stocked.

I mean, LITERALLY 6 out of 10 times I send my husband out for food they are "out" of whatever I want. Example: He went to Church's Chicken this weekend and they were totally out of breasts. WTF? How does a chicken restaurant run completely out of breasts? And if some bizarre order for 600 chicken breasts for a party comes in on short notice, then why don't they either close down or have the decency to put it on their sign so people don't have to wait in the drive thru behind 8 other cars for 20 minutes only to find out they don't even have their main food item? I can't tell you how many times restaurants are out of what I want. It's ridiculous. I can understand it happening occasionally, but there comes a time when you just lose faith in the intelligence of a majority of Americans. :(

I'm not being a smart ass, or looking down on it. Our system is retarded but so are most workers at McDonalds. Think about it, the people who owned slaves fed them and their children, housed them in something, and had to spend time or money to watch over them and make sure nobody escaped. I would say that's pretty close to paying $800 some $ a month in today's economy.

Those who work at Mcdonald's KFC and things like that are less losers than "Les B.S" in Canada it's those fuckers who receive a check from the gov each month , they don't work and they aren't doing anything those people are losers and I'm 18 only and I have to pay for those fucking cowards. I mean JESUS FUCKIN' CHRIST the #1 has been the BIG MAC for so freakin' long its ridiculous. And then some bring your badass children inside (lil overweight bastards) to order for themselves.

Scenario

Parent: Go ahead lil johnny order your food
Lil Johnny: I wanta Happy Meal, Big Mac, nuggets
Parent: No...you can only order a Happy Meal, Lil Johnny
Lil Johnny. (screech) NOOOOOOOOOO I wanta Happy Meal
Parent. I'm sorry he wants a Happy Meal. What drink do you want
Johnny
Lil Johnny: Grape sodah
Me: I'm sorry we don't have grape soda
Parent: They don't have grape soda Johnny
Lil Johnny: (screams) I WANT MY GRAPE SODAH!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I can cook very well, and no, I don't have time to do it most of the time. It takes me over 1 hour to cook a decent meal and clean up and if I buy prepared food I can work while my husband goes out for it (and it only takes him 15-30 minutes to go get it, not an hour). :P

I took time out to cook a huge Thanksgiving dinner. Took me about 8 hours, plus cleanup time. Christmas dinner took a little less time, but still took several hours. And New Year's dinner took 3 hours. That's enough cooking for me for a while when I have to work full time! LOL

We look down at people who work fast food because we damn well know they can't get a job any place else. I'm sure even the guy who puts my newspaper in my driveway makes more than fast food employees.

Tootie, in the post directly above that you just called most of them losers. :1orglaugh

My opinion? Vast majority of them are students. Their schedules are hectic, school, working, homework and somewhere in there they try to have a social life. Most of them live off a couple/few hours sleep. Yep, they screw up, but then again, so does everyone else I know, no matter what the job, how much education they have, or how much they get paid.

Anyone willing to do the grunge work with little pay and crappy hours deserves my respect. My personal experience with McD's has been good, one screw up in the past 30 visits or so.
