Xbiz goes mainstream... Good or Bad?

Just came across this and started to wonder if it's a good or bad thing.
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040102/laf008_1.html
or here
http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...2004,+10:00+AM

I myself am unsure how positive that is. Being a webmaster and running a program myself I'm not sure i'd want my program/sites pushed to the mainstream viewer for them to view. We get enough heat on us as it is, why invite people who are not looking for porn to come view our sites?

I can see the "yeah publicity is good deal" with it, but yahoo/prnnews and wherever else this is sent hits some major people. To me it could be hitting a lot of people who are not looking for porn and may make them speak out against porn. Could be taken as highly creative spam. Kinda like why are we in their backyard deal you know?

This is just my opinion, I'm not bashing X Biz in anyway and have friends who work there, I'm just looking for your opinion.

bump for a good post :thumbsup

There's gonna be a lot of news articles about Internext in the next week or so.

Wiseman 01-02-2004 03:41 PM

Well considering it is all rigged anyway!!
Who cares!!!
this isnt a peoples award!!! It is a WHO sponsors or who is friends award!!!

I mean Everyone knows QUICKBUCK ROCKS shoulda been on the best affiliate program!! =)

Space Puppy 01-02-2004 03:47 PM

Xbiz people are nothing but scumbags IMHO not a single one of their articles or site tools is an original idea.

I have personally seen articles written by more literate webmasters than that yageilowitz guy or whatever his name is up to a week before hand then suddenly lo and behold xbiz has an article on the same topic with almost the exact same wording coincidence?

what about their daily spams they have just started sending out a month or two ago, all of em have been doing that for years (sending out emails not spamming) and it works well for them because they offer webmasters somehting of use and dont harvest email addresses from the boards.

last year i had a heap of gigashite cruise spams from those fuckers too gues which show event i didnt attend.

its only going to be a matter of time before these fucker go out of business when princess left and started rated hot that was the end of xbiz in my eyes they lost the only person who was holding them together

Space Puppy 01-02-2004 03:51 PM

oh yeah and their fixed xbiz awards were only started because adult chamber ran webmaster of the year and they were getting a lot of additional exposre not to mention the new forums they have 'added' over the last few months two other forums started a 'womens' forum and xbiz suddenly launch one just like two other forums started a 'gay' forum and xbiz suddenly launched one

you wait they will start their own board tracker like service next too the copying motherfuckers

Holly 01-02-2004 03:51 PM

I love the way there's no url for "GFY". Didn't want to spell it out, either. :1orglaugh

Poor sponsors, screwed em again this year. If the sponsors and nominees mentioned did not give consent or notice of outside industry exposure, I pity the person who's responsible for the distribution of that release.

Space Puppy 01-02-2004 04:40 PM

Sucks to be an Xbiz sponsor :(

SR 01-02-2004 04:45 PM

good point

shermo 01-02-2004 05:32 PM

This release may bring some serious negative heat. Besides the common people that infest the conventions and parties, we may now also bring forward many critics. With the future as unsure as always, do we really need to bring lurkers inside of our industry and show them the fruits of our labor?

Of they see us living life for all it's worth and living like queens and kings, they'll have tons of groups on our ass that weren't there before. :2 cents:

Space Puppy 01-02-2004 05:34 PM

Xbiz look like they are trying to single handedly fuck the industry by spreading these press releases to mainstream where in al honesty they arent needed.

of course their sponsors should be happy afterall, xbiz will have received a load more highly targeted webmaster traffic to their site thanks to these press releases right? :Graucho

I'm wondering if this will bring enough publicity either negative or positive to bring the picketeers and demonstraters out in full force. It's going to be the shit's if we have to fight our way through the onlookers or demonstraters to attend the various functions that are being held both at the hotel and away from it. I can see that it could be potentially damaging for an already shaky public persona that we already have.

However, porn is starting to receive more mainstream attention with the Playboy 50th anniversary celebration on A&E and Jenna Jameson appearing at the Spike TV Video Game awards. Hell, I think Jenna even has a monster billboard in downtown NYC if i'm not mistaken, or at least she did at one time I believe. Who knows what will happen... but, if the masses do come I wouldn't want to fight my way through them to get into the Hard Rock. I also wonder how the Hard Rock feels about them being tied to a porn event.

Space Puppy 01-02-2004 07:57 PM

We should all send an email to the Hard Rock corporate offices telling them the disgust we have for them hosting a porn party might make them cancel the xbiz thing and make xbiz thing next time they send out a mainstream press release for the porn industry :thumbsup

ive already emailed them once going to do it from a couple of my mainstream sites now too :thumbsup

We are not a sponsor but we are nominated for "Best processor". Princess (a dear sweet friend) is the one that actually initiated the awards last year and even though she left Xbiz, I think it ias a good thing they are doing. Hats off to Alec and Lori.

I am kind of ashamed to admit that I would find protests a bit fun..atleast in the immediacy. I have a thing for 'controlled ' chaos.

taboo_dude 01-02-2004 08:50 PM

:1orglaugh

Guys do me favor what is the difference between playboy and xbiz? They both do porn, they both hold parties, both submit press releases. You think by this one press release the industry is going to hell in a hand basket. Oh shit the public is going to demonstrate.

Get off you high fucking rockers and get back down to earth. They are countless of other sources of industry news all over the place. Granted the news is usually broke here first... I like gfy and a lot of people that post here but you .... that think one press release to the mainstream is soooooo bad should grow up.

I know I'm going to get some flames for this post one but what the hell :321GFY

:)

and before you go there, yea I'm a sponsor, and we are going to have one hell of a good time. If you want to party with us please join us, if not sit back and watch. Don't try to turn everyone else against us because of one press release.

BTW where would we be today if Hugh just kept doing his newspaper? What if he had listened to people like you and didn't give people the choice. Unbelievable...

I'm going to go watch Jeeperscreepers 2 and veg some. I will view all the hate mail later. For those I didn't offend, I look forward toward meeting you on Tuesday. :thumbsup

dc hottie,

Don't take my post personal, I don't think it will be enough to draws crowds for the exact reasons that you gave. The thread seemed kinda silly to me to begin and then after looking at some of the posts well you know, I just had to post.

I look forward to seeing you at the breakfast ;)

Well, I just wanted to list the drawbacks that could be faced but also the reason why they may not surface. I'm on neither side of this issue.. just presenting the facts that I see.... I would never hold anything against you or your wonderful crew. I've had the pleasure of spending time with most of them and a better group of people could not be found. And, I look forward to seeing you at dinner... you forgot about that one didn't you... :winkwink:

To answer you baddog... Princess has reserved tables for the board members of Rated Hot to get together the last morning of the show at the Grand Luxe and chatting and hopefully eating and not winding up in a food fight. From what I understand Princess pulls together some pretty good gatherings which just shows why she was the Fall Webmaster of the Year winner at Adult Chambers WM of the year contest.

Just in case some of you haven't seen it you can find it over at adult chamber and you can probably still get in last minute votes if you email contest (at) webmasteroftheyear.com
:thumbsup

I think these sort of things will be commonplace in the near future. Why hide when everyone is already looking at us? It is well known we are a big industry. The acceptance levels are going up, so why not embrace it and try to take charge of that future.

However, it does put us all right in the firestorm for all the religious leaders, like most of the current administration in the US.

:2 cents:

brand0n 01-02-2004 09:24 PM

i learned alot from people at xbiz. at one point and time it was a great board. shit kinda went to hell in a hand bag when the mods got sold out for ad space. then marsha left and that kinda was the nail in the coffin

but hey, gigacash is still a solid program:thumbsup

Yes I had :) now I remember :) that one was kinda last minute is the reason I forgot. Did we decide where to go?

I'm surprised I haven't been flamed to hell. I know it was a kinda candid post but I just called it the way I saw it.

BTW for those they haven't seen creepers2, it is pretty damn good :)
