Ukrainian couple named child Jesus Christ

The Ukrainian Justice Ministry is trying to talk a couple out of calling their son Jesus Christ.

Valentina Kunda, chairwoman of the department for civil affairs, said the boy was registered as Jesus Christ Vladimrovich last year.

And despite pleas from her Ministry and employees of the local marriage registration office, the parents have stuck to the name.

"Twelve months have already passed, but the parents have not expressed their wish to change the boy's name," she said.

According the Ukrainian Code of Marriage and Family, parents are free to call a child any name they wish.
