MEXICO CITY (AP)--A strong earthquake rocked Mexico City on Thursday, but no
major damage or injuries were immediately reported.
The quake's exact magnitude and center were not immediately known.
The quake rocked downtown highrises, sent many running from their homes and
caused scattered power outages.
Because the quake occurred on New Year's Day, most people were home with
their families or on vacation, and Mexico City's earthquake-prone center was
largely empty of crowds.
