Niche - Neesh or Nitch?
 

How do you pronounce it. Some films I have watched have pronounced it Neesh and some of the ' older ' guys around say it like that ..... and all the young bucks say " nitch "


so what is it ?

Depends if you speak american english or international english.

Amercian English dictates pronunciation as 'nitch', wherease international (british, australian etc) english pronunces it as neesh.

Same with the differences in pronouncing tumeric and oregano etc.

US pronounciation is NITCH

I pronounced it "Neesh" until Raven laughed at me. Since then I've said "Nitch". I now also say "Tomato, potato, route, rutabega" and "antidisestablishmentarianism." Oh, and "llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysili ogogogoch."

(One just CANNOT make that word fit properly. Sorry.)

There are a lot of differences between English as it is supposed to be used, and the way Americian use it -
We say "neesh" - Americans say "nitch".
We say "sir" Americans pronounce it as "Hey Fucktard"

I was watching the family buisness marathan yesterday on Showtime and Seymore butts and Doc Johnson both said Neesh ..... So ' aermicans ' say it too :-/

Nitch? Geez, never considered pronouncing it that way. It is "neesh" to me. Nitch sort of sounds like some sort of crab you may have picked up while slutting around in different "neeshes".

I say "nitch." Never heard it pronounced any other way. Of course, I'm in the southern U.S. so we pronounce alot of things differently than other parts of the world.

I did meet a well educated black man in a boarding house years ago (don't ask me how a very well educated man ended up living in a boarding house because I don't know) that was always talking about the "nouveau riche" (reesh) and since riche and niche are spelled practically the same I guess I could have made the connection, but I've just never heard anything but "nitch." *shrug*

I say "AD-vertisement" and my husband says "ad-VERT-isment." I say "sKedule" and he says "sHedule" (but he's just picking on me when he says that!) and he picks on me when I say I'm "fixing" to do something! LOL

I also say "lye-nux" and not "lennox" for Linux. I say "JIF" instead of "GIF" like some people say it. I say "porsh" and not "porsh-uh" for Porsche. I say "jag-war" and not "jag-you-ar" like on the car commercials.

I pronounce things the way I want to, and I don't pick one people for the way THEY pronounce things unless I'm just joking and I make it a point to let them know I'm only joking and I'm NOT being mean. :)

I'm from the South and I say "neesh" when talking about porn/biz stuff. However, I have always heard the expression "You just gotta find your 'nitch' " and strangely enough, I probably wouldn't say it "neesh" for that one phrase. That's kind of weird, now that I think about it.
